Any auto parts supply store should have a variety brass shim stock. You can usually buy it off a roll by the inch or foot.

Sadly our motorfactors here in oz aren't as wellstocked as your Napa or Pepboys here they can barely even get certain bulbs for a (latemodel very common locally built) Ford I look after, nor even vital fluids for the (latemodel pretty common locally built) Mitsubishi without specially preordering it. Don't even bother asking for older/odder jalopies, thank god for mailorder.

Big hobbystore or at least one that specialises in miniature trains seem to be easiest place to find the K&S shim pack, they must use it for either hooking up rails, live-steam engines or drivetrain shimming.

nah, Mitre10 are a chain of independent small franchised stores under a buying group umbrella; they used to have Super Mitre10 which is more a bigbox store but haven't been into one lately.

Big incumbent is Bunnings who bought out most of its competition; these days they've become another bigbox store selling cheapest china made, umm, "one use" tools?

Recently supermarket chain Woolworths partnered with US Lowes to start Masters to compete with Bunnings... their strategy was simply to build big stores right next to every Bunnings. Early on they offered some nice US brandnames (heh I like Mechanix & GearWrench) but coupla years on... their venture is haemorrhaging $$$ badly and the good stuff have mostly disappeared, replaced by china made homebrands.

I trawl Masters & Bunnings regularly looking for materials for various projects... never find anything that specialised unless it's a common building material like aluminium or lead sheets used for roof flashing.
