What Was Your Last Impulsive Pen Acquisition?

I'd been eyeing a Santini Italia pen for a while, but by the time I had settled on the idea of buying one, my budget couldn't accommodate it; and then they went on holiday for August (how sensible! I should try that); and then I more or less wrote off the idea of ordering anything from the EU until the chaos got sorted out. But after receiving a sale email from them yesterday, I contacted Katrina, who assured me that DHL is (still? once again?) shipping from the EU to the US, so I purchased a Nonagon in the Madagascar resin with an EF nib, at a discount that might just about cover the shipping and tariffs. By my decidedly understated aesthetic standards, this pen is outrageously blingy, and will look like nothing else in my collection, which is what I like about it; and I think it still has a sense of proportion.

... and an interesting but controversial Cartier Vendome pen. The oval barrel and beautiful lacquer finish are a plus. Cons: the pen is to short when open (I don't like to post caps), the nib is tiny and the need to use special cartridges. It certainly won't be my favorite pen, but I'm very pleased to add it to my collection.

Congratulations on your new pen. I have one gold-plated, but I think the biggest problem is finding the cartridges that are quite scarce.I refill the empty one, but I would like to buy new ones.

Thank you!

I got 10 empty cartridges with this pen, I think they will last me a long time.

Would it be possible to find someone who could use a 3D printer to create new ones? Also, if it would be legal, they might market those cartridges to those "in need". If a converter is available (somewhere), then that might be an alternative as well.

I think the first step would be to take accurate measurements of the cartridge you want to reproduce and see if there is something available that would be a substitute before trying to reproduce new ones.  It is possible to 3D print most anything.  A closed container might be a bit harder to do, though.

I would have thought that a substitute had been sought and identified already, if possible. If that is not the case, then yes, of course, look for something else that would fit and function. Then, go to a 3D printer. As for being a closed container, would a used cartridge still be considered a closed container? If so, then, could one cut a cartridge in half length-wise, reproduce two halves and then use those as a basis for recreating a "normal" cartridge?

Yes and yes.

My 3D printing experience is very limited.  I am thinking that a hollow cylinder, open and one end would be easy to do,but the making a hollow cylinder that is closed or partially closed at both ends would be difficult at the least.

The Kaweco Liliput Kolibri special edition (picture below).

I was not planning on buying any pens at that time, when I randomly opened my favorite fountain pen website (stiloestile.com) and there it was on the home page. I knew that if I didn't buy it now, I might never be able to get it again, and I knew I would probably regret that. So I bought it, a 130€ pen, which was more expensive than the rest of my collection combined. Funny enough, it arrived on the same day as a gift from my grandfather... A Montblanc which was also more expensive than the rest of my collection combined (including the Liliput).

So far, no regrets. The nib is a little inconsistent (at least I think it's the nib causing the issue) but it's not a dealbreaker and I've contacted support about it. The size is perfect for my miniature hands, I can comfortably use it unposted, though it is better posted. This is actually the only pen I can use posted, that should tell you how small my hands are. Oh, and it came with a cartridge of Kaweco Summer Purple, which is an ink I would have wanted to try out at some point anyways. Not a bad ink, certainly fits my tastes, but I haven't been wowed by it either and I doubt I'll rush out to buy a bottle once it runs out; I have better purples.

Thanks @RedPie

I certainly haven't regretted this impulsive buy. I am sure more are yet to come and they will certainly not all be as successful.

Corrected 'impolsive buy' to 'impulsive'. One could have been easily misled into thinking I had made an 'implosive' purchase

I think my entire last purchase from Goulet - which has not yet arrived - pretty much qualifies as impulsive.  It contained all the colors of Lamy ink they had in stock, two Lamy Vistas and all the Vista nib sizes, as well as a Vanishing Point and an extra nib unit.  That'll fill out my selection of all the sizes of VP nibs.  Also wound up with a Pilot E95 in the cart because I've admired them for a while.

Don't need any of them, but am looking forward to all of them.

They must LOVE you big time!

Sounds like you are immersing yourself in the fountain pen lifestyle.

ENJOY!

The Onoto PI, 133# out of 314.

You can only see the 3.14 because it is in white, but there are an additional 311 digits of pi engraved in the pen.

A year ago I had not heard of Onoto. Now I have three of them!

The Pi pen is one that has tempted me since it came out.  I've successfully resisted buying it . . . so far.

I received the Monteverde Mountains of the World pen today. And it is the discontinued 2nd in the series Mauna Kea pen. It, too, would not take the 1.1mm stub nib I got for it. I was able to put the B nib that came with the Kilimanjaro pen. Now to research to see if any inks are named for lava.

Oh, you mean an Onoto π of course 😛

Congrats! We should kick off an Onoto fan club here on FPN! I'm eyeing an Excel, but alas my current finances won't allow for it...

[Edit] Whoops! This just showed up
