A Pen Boutique exclusive LE Retro 51 Raven 2024. It is the third in their Edgar Alan Poe series. This is the first fountain pen I have purchased in that series. Do I have to use purple ink in it?

@boilermaker1975 You only have to use purple ink in it if you want to.  Admittedly, a dark purple would probably look good coming out of that pen, but no, if you don't want to use purple ink that's also perfectly okay.

Congrats on a wonderful pen! I'd suggest Lamy Dark Lilac (IIRC it has some sheen similar to raven feathers) if you want a strictly purple ink. Or something more "mainstream" like Diamine Writers Blood. Or just a regular Waterman Tender Purple. Pierre Cardin makes Vintage Pink ink that might suit it as well though.

@ParramattaPaul That's really cool!  I have one or two LE pens -- but never one that was numbered.

So -- are you going to use it or keep it pristine in the box?

Use it of course!  What is the point of having nice pens and only looking at them instead of enjoying it using them and enjoying them to their fullest?  After all, when I go belly up and float to the top of the pond, someone else is going to get each of my pens and do with them what they please.

I have no plan or need to sell any of my pens, so I am not concerned about any of them losing value because they have been used.  In fact, I have more used vintage pens than new ones (>75 total).

TBT, the new arrival was inked with Oxford Blue within an hour of its arrival.  It is a very nice writing pen.

Hahaha, I had a hunch 😉 Soo... about 1 pen/month, eh? We should find out who #1 & 2 are 🙂

Congrats and may it comfort you during your recovery!

Would you believe it? I had the same exact thought as to which ink should go in it, but I'm out of Oxford blue so I chose Iroshizuku fuyu-syogun instead.
