What Was Your Last Impulsive Pen Acquisition?

My most recent impulsive pen purchase was a Parker Premier with a fine nib. Nib isn't the right size for my writing, so I might keep it as a collectable.

Recently impulsively ordered this one (I planned to get it one day if it won't be bought out by someone else, but then I just... yeah, bought it myself), it didn't arrive yet and I still have no idea what is it

Lamy Safari Dark Dusk, black B nib, from Vanness Pens.  Ordered it last weekend and it arrived Thursday afternoon (wonder how many people will catch the reference if I say "half-past Thursday afternoon" B)), so I was able to show it off Thursday evening at this month's Steel City Nibs pen club meeting.  Once I got it flushed out, I inked it up with a freebie ink that someone was giving away -- Colorado Pens Canyon Rust (trying to decide what I think of it, since I tend to not like red-leaning browns).

Box of bits on ebay - there was a Parker Vector calligraphy set in there, as well as a few Manuscript pens and nibs and a trio of Sheaffer No Nonsense italic nibs. I didn't realise when I nabbed the lot but one of the Sheaffer nibs is a shadow writing nib - never knew that Sheaffer even made anything other than plain italic nibs for the No Nonsense calligraphy pens.

Okay, I'll bite.  What's a "shadow writing nib"?

A number of years ago I bought a Vector calligraphy set on eBay.  Not cheap, especially with shipping, but it came in a really nice metal box.  One of these days I should dig it out and try the other nibs (I've had the set for over a decade but have only ever used the italic F nib).

It looks like it could be a Japanese knock-off of a Vacumatic.   I've run across a few, and they tend to look like that.

Please excuse the scrawl - this is a shadow nib and the effect it gives. I believe the current Kaweco Sport offers them, and Osmiroid made them for their various nib systems, but I'd never seen one on any Sheaffer before.

Is a shadow writing nib like a musical nib in that it has more than one tip?

I've never seen one of those before. I can imagine that it would get little use.

I would say no, not like a music nib at all. It's a fun nib to play with and its use leans heavily toward calligraphy. The ones I have used were Osmiroid nibs and wrote quite smoothly. In fact, IIRC, Iused one when I did the calligraphy for my parrents 50th wedding anniversary. I only used the shadow (it may have been called a 'scroll' nib?) for the initial letter in gold ink.

Again, IIRC, Osmiroid has shadow nibs in several sizes also.

Completely different than music nibs.  Shadow nibs have a space (shadow) in between two part of the nib surface.  Below are the Osmiroid (which called them shadow and made them in different sizes) and Bock (which calls them twin and makes them in only one size).  The Bock is used in Kaweco Sports.

Kaweco has several shadow nibs. One to suit a Sport, the other for Student/Dia2 etc. I think they're each available with a pen or as a nib unit.

I bought a clear Student with one last Christmas. As soon as I got it I realised I wouldn't use use it often enough for such a pretty pen, so ordered a fine nib unit as well.

Two days, two pens, same impulse! YIKES!!

Yesterday at the flea market, I jumped on a Michel Perchin ball point pen. Nice pen that takes Parker refills.

Today I put in a "low" bid on a Parker 75 w/fine nib and, surprise... I Won.

Will know more in about about 10 days.

@ruby.monkey @lascosas and @AmandaW -- Thanks for the photos.  It was really helpful to see not only what that type of nib looked like, but also the writing example.

Boy, I learn all sorts of cool stuff every time I log on here!

Two impulse buys, a Waterman 321/2 BCHR with oblique italic thats wet and flexy and several auctions for the Osmiroid 65 left handed nibs. I'm trying to learn uncial and other older calligraphy styles and was delighted to find left handed nibs. Now I just have to track down several size 16 sacs...sigh.

Just browsing, I came upon this Sheaffer "school pen" in buckskin, which I've heard of as a Parker color. I thought it was pleasing in the Sheaffer version, too.

I'm assuming a school pen is a basic model, built to be sturdy (corrections invited!), which is OK with me.

I have bought sacs on ebay from The Pen Shop of Memphis, but I also saw this listing for several #16 sacs: Ink sacs

MontBlanc 144 IB, FWP Edwards Gardens

MontBlanc 310s F, mystery grey ink left in converter

Sheaffer Jr. Balance ebonized pearl F, Skrip Black

Pelikan M400 Blue striped OM, Troublemaker Abalone

Platinum PKB 2000, Platinum Cyclamen Pink

I bought a Stipula Rubino, black and gold trim with a jewel in the clip. It is a broad nib, which is more of a generous medium in my fussy opinion. It was used and in excellent condition, and it is my first Italian pen. I was amused to see the same pen, its twin brother if you like on Ebay and the seller asking $750 or best offer, surely that seems over the top?
