What Was Your Last Impulsive Pen Acquisition?

Two pens about a week apart. The first is a big jade Gold Bond pen from the 1920s with an excellent (correspondingly big) 14k nib. The pen is a flattop the same length as the big Sheaffers but a little girthier, and with a bit more trim. I'm just finishing minor restoration and new sac tonight, 'after' pics later. Then this morning I happened to see an Azure Blue Vacumatic, Blue Diamond clip, which appears to have excellent transparency. That will be here in about a week. Not normally pens I seek, but both were excellent pieces for their asking prices; I sent a lower offer to the Gold Bond seller and they accepted, which was a bonus! Here are a couple of teaser photos from the auction site:

This year it is Pen Palette. Last year it was Ken Chalet. They have been claiming a name change every April 1 for years. They send a sticker with the logo and name in April Fool’s Day orders.

Pen Pallette

Edit: I got all excited about the 10% off and was going to impulsively get a Visconti Dark Age but the 10% off did not apply to this pen, ☹️

1. Visconti Homo Sapiens Bronze Age

2. Onoto Faraday

I always seem to buy something from Pen Chalet on April Fool’s Day when they claim to be changing their name.

The latest email update from Desiderata Pens did something similar, claiming to have merged with a bunch of different companies including Amazon....  And the website that runs listings for area estate sales did one themselves for "April First Liquidations" (which actually mentioned fountain pens in the "listing").

@JonSzanto Nice find!  Blue Pearl is my favorite color for Vacumatics (although the little Red Shadow Wave I have is probably my favorite of the Vacs overall, because it's such a nice writer).

Thanks! I've always felt it a shame that the Shadow Wave material never made it into the full size Vacumatic line in a bigger way. I think they look remarkable. I don't think I've even seen a red one, very cool!

I got it a number of years ago at an auction at a pen show (might have been the last year I went to DCSS, at the old site hotel).  Couldn't BELIEVE I didn't get outbid on it.  Then took it to one of the repair tables to get checked out and got told it seemed to be working.  So, it got tested with Waterman Mysterious Blue, and that ink looked so good coming out of it that I ran it for something like three YEARS with no maintenance, other than refilling it with WMB as needed....

Did have to have the sac replaced a couple of years ago, but it's just one of my go-to pens that is almost ALWAYS in rotation....

Reliable old friends are just the best, aren't they?

Here's a promised shot of the Gold Bond, post-restoration:

Thank you both. It was a nice pen to work on, and a pleasure to see the quality of materials in a brand that isn't usually included in the first-line companies.

An Asvine Lorelei in blue because I didn’t get many web results while searching. My oldest brother sometimes calls me Lorelei, so I think I should have one of these pens.

Is that the same pen as the Lorelei 667? It's a clear barrel piston filler with pretty acrylics on the ends and section. I have a few colours of that one and like it a lot!!! Very good at sealing as well.

Will work for pens...

Thank god for will power, managed to go pen gift shopping, and not come out with another pen for me. That could quite easily of happened. So no impulsive purchases today it took all the strength I had to not to buy another pen.

No pix yet, because I just got home maybe an hour ago, but picked up an odd c/c pen at an estate sale this morning a couple of counties over.  It says, "MARTHA BY MAIL" on the cap band, and the clip looks sort of similar to a Pelikan clip.  Haven't been able to read the engraving on the nib, which seems to have some sort of lizard design on it, and the underside of the feed says "5" on it.

Same here.

I received an email advert from Onoto yesterday, and another from Conway Stewart today.  Both tempting me. Both offering lustful pens.

I resisted, thanks be to God.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
