What Was Your Last Impulsive Pen Acquisition?

Another Sheaffer No Nonsense calligraphy set (single body plus three italic nibs and guide book). I do love these Sheaffer nibs and they make the perfect base for oblique italics.

Planned to buy a few button and vacuum filler ADMOKs but then saw one of my dream pens with a nice discount finally and had to grab it - Moonman F9s (I guess S is for the Spider??). Yup am aware it is inspired by MB's Heritage pens but it is different and I love Moonman's. Recently had to cancel one purchase as it appeared to be a fake MB instead of a desired Moonman.

Also went impulsive further and ordered some nibs for manual grinding (those are sold with just tipping so you can do it all by yourself) to get a shipping discount and two of those nibs are said to be flex. Hope it all gets shipped and arrives safe and sound, now I'm gonna have some pen and ink starvation because of saving money for a grail pen (my spouse said 'tis too important to get it for me and so we'll do).

This one got cancelled. It starts to infuriate me how every time I try to get myself this Moonman F9s in black from anywhere the order eventually gets cancelled. And the sales ended so the new purchase costed me more today. But ordered another pen (for experiments so had to choose a c/c Moonman M800 in galaxy blue) and more nibs for manual grinding and something noname said to be a piston demonstrator that was only £1.5, added a few transparent feeds and cheapo wool-like pen cases. This was certainly needed to survive the big pen starvation that awaits me.

NOT an impulse since I've talked about it and thought about it for most of June, but I did the deed and bought the Onoto Ebony Magna with a broad nib that I've been lusting for.  I'm lying to myself justifying the expense by saying it is a get well present to me after my cochlear implant surgery next month.

Sometimes it's okay to get yourself presents. Instead of dwelling on the expense think of the hours, even years of pleasure you can experience with it, along with your reinforced hearing.

Way to go! 👍 I hope I've played my little role in that decision 😁

Let's see if you get #4... This way we'll know how fast they sell 😄

Since you have talked about it I have taken a look and really like this pen. Of course I am partial to the Black and Gold version!

I hope your surgery goes well!

I had a head injury and had to have emergency burr hole surgery at the end of March. Maybe I should get myself another Onoto!

Now that was a very sm-o-o-o-th delivery.

I almost missed it!

Could be worse though. You could lose your mind completely!

@Gloucesterman I had worked out and afterwards was having trouble with my right leg. I attributed it to somehow hurting it working out. The next day I noticed I was making errors with my right hand when typing. I went to see my GP and he got me in for a CT scan in an hour at an imaging center.

The radiologist comes running out and says, "I have called an ambulance, your brain is bleeding." (That is permanently burned into my memory.) In the ER they immediately determined they had to helicopter me to a neurotrama center in Indianapolis, where they did burr hole surgery to relieve the pressure on my brain.

They said I would be in the hospital a week, but I recovered so quickly I was out in three days.

The bleeding was actually from a bump on the head and not from working out. Where I bumped my head didn't even hurt but there was a slight bump there. I guess I hit it just right.

The neurosurgeon showed me the CT scan and the left front of my brain was pushed in at least an inch from the blood. I don't know how I was still functioning.

I feel completely fine, in some ways even better as I have been working to improve my balance! I have a great PT I saw for about a month to work on my balance and to learn exercises to do.

Congratulations on your recovery. Truly glad that you are doing okay after that event.

Lamy Persona, 18K M. Two features appeal to me: the retractable clip and the cap that clicks on when posted.

Thank heaven you didn't ignore things completely.

Goodness that must have been scary. I’m so glad you recovered quickly. When my parents were in rehab, I’d sometimes be there, mostly for my Mom. They said you get out of it what you put into it. Sounds like you did it well.

@ParramattaPaul and @Misfit Looking back I should have gone in the first day. Instead my wife and I went on a three mile hike getting reading for a trip we had planned for May hiking in Cornwall and the Cotswolds! I had to concentrated on my right leg to keep it moving. When I started to have right hand symptoms the next day I finally got smart and went in to be seen.

When I heard "Your brain is bleeding" I think I went into shock not knowing what would happen. During the helicopter ride the paramedic told me he was going to have to give me something as my blood pressure was getting too high. My neurosurgeon was Jean Pierre Mobassor and  I can't say enough about how wonderful he was.

That I had cancer was discovered by co-incidence.  I went to see a doctor I hadn't seen for a number of years.  He decided to do a new patient work up since it had been so long since he had seen me last.  A spot showed up on the chest x-ray and he rang me straight away.  It was confirmed as Stage IV Metastatic Melanoma, and the treatment programme was initiated in less than 10 days.  He saved my life because I was completely asymptomatic.

@boilermaker1975 Yikes!  What a scary experience!  Glad that things seem to be under control for you now and that your surgeon seem to be very good!

I just purchased a Sailor Mini PGS Recontre in Blue Ciel. I love these mini pens, and they are so much cheaper when they aren’t a Japanese store exclusive with a bespoke nib.

I’m beyond glad that those of you who had medical emergencies that you were unaware of made it through.

Top 5 (in no particular order) of 20 currently inked pens:

Sheaffer 100 Satin Blue M, Pelikan Moonstone/holographic mica

Brute Force Designs Pequeño Ultraflex EF, Journalize Horsehead Nebula

Pilot Custom 743 <FA>, Oblation Sitka Spruce

Pilot Elite Ciselé <F>, Colorverse Dokdo

Platinum PKB 2000, Platinum Cyclamen Pink

A Pen Boutique exclusive LE Retro 51 Raven 2024. It is the third in their Edgar Alan Poe series. This is the first fountain pen I have purchased in that series. It is textured. It glows in the dark. Do I have to use purple ink in it?
