wow thank you so much for your help @Penguincollector 🙏 <m(__)m>
I probably will get either Sailor 141 or Iroshizuku Kajaku. Arigatou !

@OldTravelingShoe
BIG congrats !
That is the pen I have been eyeing for a while. I think in the past year it appeared in Kingdom note for twice.
But twice I didn't have the budget for it.
There was one available in Tokyo Pen show but the condition was far from desirable.
I too, really admire the Fuyu-kodachi way more than other design like the Kiku.
Congrats, I am happy for you !

So now that I’m looking at it in the light, it’s not a match, but they seem to be from around the same time. Here’s a picture, I don’t know much about Pilot history, but it’s a cool pouch. It has the Pilot logo embossed on the loop.large.IMG_0512.jpeg.125ce25908011b63797d61bd8835ad91.jpeglarge.IMG_0510.jpeg.9ca68fd5ebcb5956dd3fc9ee4c9bb341.jpeglarge.IMG_0511.jpeg.26bd350c935166814ffe2371ca60b54a.jpeg

Pilot has had a bunch of cool & nicely made pouches.

Uhm, I am sorry to say that the pen, very nice though it is, appears to be sheep skin, not lizard. I will include a photo of mine when I post the photos OldTravelingShoe requested.

Are you planning on adding these to said collection?

No; but then I bought six new ink colours — three while in Japan, even though I pledged I wouldn't, and then another three at half-price on a Black Friday offer —  just in the past 30 days, without planning on doing so.

I endeavour to be frank and truthful in what I write, show or otherwise present, when I relate my first-hand experiences that are not independently verifiable; and link to third-party content where I can, when I make a claim or refute a statement of fact in a thread. If there is something you can verify for yourself, I entreat you to do so, and judge for yourself what is right, correct, and valid. I may be wrong, and my position or say-so is no more authoritative and carries no more weight than anyone else's here.

I thought that was the case, as I have seen the sheepskin ones before- but the seller kept calling it a lizard. I used to keep lizards and didn’t think it looked anything like that, but maybe there was something lost in translation. I didn’t pay a lot for it, and the nib is divine, so it’s cool.  I would love to see yours when you get to it.

Well,  it would be ridiculous to NOT buy ink in Japan, with so many exclusives. We need an inpulsive ink buy thread over in that section ( I may have started one, can’t recall at the moment). There’s worse things to impulse buy.

To make things even more confusing, I believe Pilot did make lizard skin pens that looked very similar. I recall a green-colored version, having a thicker clip with floral symbols near its tip.

My last impulsive acquisition was a Sheaffer Imperial Sovereign. It popped up on r/pen_swap on reddit from someone who I had bought from before at a good price. I had been eyeing a Kilk but I wasnt sure the next time I would see an Imperial Sovereign so I snagged it.

Per @OldTravelingShoe's request: recently received Pilot Super-250 (Elite series) with Signature nib, including macro shots of the nib, and Sailor Hoscal. (Sorry for the overexposed Pilot cap.) The pipe lever filler's (terminology per Pilot Japan's repair department) bushing is stuck on the feed peg. I've tried the tricks I know to get it off - now waiting for some needle-nose pliers to arrive in the mail.

Per @Penguincollector's request: Pilot lizard-skin wrapped pen. Any speculation about the lizard species? I don't know if the skin is its original color. (?)

Per @nobody's request: unknown worn/rough (though not terrible) kamakura-bori ink-stop/eyedropper pen that just arrived a couple hours ago. Has a Steady Perfect nib, which was a Ginjiro Kabutogi (aka "GK") brand, though it cannot be known whether it was made or finished by the master himself. I've never seen a kamakura-bori pen with a black cap top - perhaps it might be a replacement piece from a repair? Regardless, I think it looks good. The finish reminds me of a strawberry's skin.

Add in a nice maki-e pen and that might be a sort of fair microcosm of the variety and beauty of vintage Japanese pens!

What a lovely collection of vintage pens! The bottom one really does look like a strawberry.   My Pilot is definitely not a lizard, on yours the pattern is very identifiable as lizard skin, which lizard is beyond my ken. The Hoscal pattern is very eye catching and the size is perfect.

First of all, welcome to FPN.

Take a moment  and tell us a bit more of your pen focus.

Are you only interested in the vintage Parker brand?

If so, have you discovered the brand focused section of this site?

Yes hello, I joined quite a few months ago but just never found time to add anything. My interest is basically pens from before 1995. Not particular interested in Parker although my first purchased fountain pen was a Parker 75. Just amazed at the variety out there and all the subtle differences. So far an Aurora DuoCart has the nib to die for but who knows what will show up in the future.

Nice!

I would like to collect Japanese pens with 'exotic' leather. Right now it's a collection of one! I waffled on getting a Platinum Amazonas at a good price and now regret it.

Thank you @Misfit
It is on "day off" right now. I try to rotate my TN members as much as possible.
The Kyoto is a dark navy and you can hard tell the patina, maybe that was why I glued those fabric patches on it .

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
