I just ordered what I think is the ultimate pink fountain pen — a Platinum #3776 Celluloid ‘Sakura’ — which I had the opportunity some years ago to buy (new) for A$230 or thereabouts from Amazon AU but didn't, and now it's going to cost me rather more. 😕

I gave a soft pass on getting the Platinum #3776 Century ‘Shape of a Heart Ivoire’ for A$400, though. I'd love to have #3776 Century with a matt-finish body, but my reservations with that pen is (i) the main selling point, being the attractive cap finial, is that it's overshadowed by how gimmicky and ‘fashion-brand’ it also looks; and (ii) I don't post the pen cap when writing, so when the pen is in use I'm not actually going to see that feature.

Is that the one with the pattern that looks almost like mosaic? If so, it's a pen I've admired many times. I have a terrible weakness for pink pens.

A Pilot 74 in Blue Stone. I saw this pen on-line and I thought the color was just beautiful, and I liked the fact that it took Iroshizuku cartridges, so I sent for one straight away. I still think it looks great, but I am disappointed by how it writes compared to the Custom 823. The nib, a fine, is nowhere near as smooth and has trouble on downstrokes, and is a little dry as well. I hope to get it tweaked at the LI Pen Show this weekend.

The box did not have to sent back, but was binned. I couldn't bear to look at the thing. Lunchmeat packaging? That alone would be enough. Not vegan... lol.

I impulsively bought a mechanical pencil. A Cross Townsend. For $25. New. No box.

Will work for pens...

Oh that’s a pretty blue. I have that pen in Orange. Intriguing that they take Iroshizuku cartridges. I don’t have any, but you never know.

Yes, that's the one. Previously I thought, why would I want to write, or even be seen, with a pink pen? I already managed to snag the brown tortoiseshell one (at not quite a low a price) before that; and just about all the other colours in the series were more appealing to my aesthetic tastes.

Now, after buying hundreds more pens — including the ‘Calico’ in the same series — and seeing the proliferation of fancy acrylics on pen bodies in the market, I think the look so the ‘Sakura’ is unique, and not commonly or easily imitated. I don't really have a thing for celluloid as a material, so if it's going to be a point of distinction, it should at least look the part, i.e. distinctive.

I'd previously ordered the emerald one, but even though I like the colour better, I don't think the overall visual effect of its body material is as special.

I endeavour to be frank and truthful in what I write, show or otherwise present, when I relate my first-hand experiences that are not independently verifiable; and link to third-party content where I can, when I make a claim or refute a statement of fact in a thread. If there is something you can verify for yourself, I entreat you to do so, and judge for yourself what is right, correct, and valid. I may be wrong, and my position or say-so is no more authoritative and carries no more weight than anyone else's here.

Yesterday I did my old trick of going into eBay's list of vintage fountain pens and sorting it by Time: Ending Soonest. I saw a 30's Sheaffer Balance in green/black marble and a hump clip, probably not OS, that was not restored but that looked very good, with 4 minutes to go in the auction. I got it pretty cheap, and pretty soon I hope to have a sweet project pen. The project may be as short as a re-saccing, but that's okay with me.

Nice @sirgilbert357 great looking pen

Thank you. This was one of those "love at first sight" pens. Didn't hurt that I had funds available that were dedicated to an M1000. Luckily, I had enough funds to get both, LOL. So...well, I did.

As I really like the looks of the Pelikan M1000 Maki-e Green Ray but am not prepared to pay the price asked for that pen, I had always hoped to stumble upon a different pen that would scratch that itch some day. And then I saw a picture of the Monteverde Invincia Deluxe Abalone with gunmetal trim and black nib and thought, well, yes, that will do.

Here it is:

Montblanc 254 (second generation, 1957-59)

Thermoplastic body, piston filler and “wing nib” 14k, M.

Slightly short pen for my taste. Nib, I think, is odd shape.

I got this pen - A Platinum with an 18k white gold nib - almost a year ago. An 80s design I'm informed. Well, tonight I found a matching mechanical pencil...  I had to get it. Just had to. Even if it's not a pen, It's a pal for a pen, and definitely impulsive. Things like that can't be planned.

I recently got the matching, uhm, ballpoint 😲, for a favorite fountain pen I have. Not only is that hella impulsive, it counters all the good judgment developed over my many years and, furthermore, makes me question my moral compass.

(I have the same Platinum fountain pen. It's one of my favorites.)

One more vintage Montblanc -- slightly rare 302 model (1935-37).

Montblanc 302 was a Safety Pen with retractible nib. Body make from ebonite. Pen is small, just 113mm lenght, but comfortable in hand. Nib is OBB, 14k -- fantastic nib!

There I was, minding my own business, when a nice pen comes along... I bid expecting to lose but... I won. Waterman 54, here next to a W5.

It's a nice pen with an interesting nib, unfortunately after trying a few inks and being puzzled by the irregular flow I noticed some ink on the lever box, I managed to open it and found the sac has a leak. For once it's a local vendor who can give me a new sac but I have no shellac, if anyone knows of a source in Mexico City it would be greatly appreciated. I will eventually get some via friends in the US but direct import of liquids is not allowed; not sure how easy or hard it is to produce it from flakes, not sure of the quality of those available locally either.

It's a shame because the nib shows a lot of promise.

Lovely pen, I really like these models. There was also a 256 model, same pen but larger (and a 252, same pen but smaller). I think they are all meant to be used posted; I certainly couldn't use them without posting.

These folded nibs are, I believe, the same nibs that you'll find in at least some of the "fingernail" nib pens like the 24, just without the hood covering most of it.

I talked myself into finally getting a blue Monteverde Impressa with a new version of the omniflex nib from Speerbob. It’s been on my watch list forever because it’s so blue. I wasn’t sure about the nib, but I figured- why not try it when guaranteed?

Definitely let us know how that nib works out for you. My experience with the earlier ones was decent. Not great, simply decent.

However, I am particularly curious about the newer, more recent incarnations.

Thanks and congratulations.

ENJOY!

Looking forward to it. I am really curious about the performance of the new one.

Just bought a Crescent demonstrator from "Speerbob" (excellent experience - always) and am expecting its arrival on Monday. tomorrow.

Yesterday I bought a Montblanc Virginia Woolf Writers Edition, which I believe was made in 2006 as a limited edition. I frankly don't like most of Montblanc's special or limited editions, but this one appeals to me as somewhat understated, normal-sized, and attractive, and it has a lot of good reviews as a comfortable, every-day sort of writer rather than as a showpiece. So when I saw one at what I think is a good price, I went for it.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
