Just pick 800? Easier to calculate the cost and a round number. Rest 200 I can give to pgd84.

I got the cost estimate from the manufacturer and he is saying $210 for 4000 pages. We are looking for cheaper sources.

The person I know is a stationer and the low cost is given only to wholesalers.

Cheapest available is in Japan where it is manufactured. Anywhere else will give it at an additional cost. It should be available for $75-80, if that's the cost, then I would suggest going through with it. Otherwise not.

$210 is the final quote from the manufacturer. $80 is the lowest quote from Rakuten. We are trying to find something lower.

Rakuten seller will not ship to india so I will have to ask them to ship to the seller friend in Japan.

Order placed, waiting for invoice to make payment.

Edit: those who have expressed interest in buying from me

Mehandiratta - 800 sheets (sorry, mentioned in the first post that only in batches of 100)

Pgd84 - 200 sheets

M vajrpani - 100 sheets

Rishminder - 200 sheets (to be collected by Vaibhav, good for me)

Okay. Will do. I will have 4000 so it's okay. :)

Edit: Btw, the price is $90 including shipped to Tokyo. It will be sent to me from there using EMS. Adding custom duties to that, it will come to $160-180.

So we are looking at INR 2.64 - 2.97 per sheet.

For a moment i mistook the INR as USD and though 180 rupees per sheet... till i came back to my senses....

Payment made. Order will be shipped to Tokyo on Monday from where it will be shipped to india by my seller friend.

You can get that sort of paper too which costs $3 per sheet. Japanese washi paper which comes with every Izumo costs around this much per sheet.

Where does rishminder live? In Delhi?

Alright, I have got an accurate weight of 4000 sheets which is 15kg. O.O

So paper is for 10,500 yen

Shipping via EMS 14,200 yen

custom duties 33-40% 8151-9880 yen

Total 32851-34580 yen

In INR 18069-19000

Which comes to around INR 4.5-4.75 per sheet.

Who still wants it? I don't think many.

Good for him. He can bring back stuff to sell to us.

Customs can't be escaped in this case. Whenever I have escaped customs, the items were few and but expensive. So less shipping. But in this case, shipping alone is enough to attract custom duty. Plus, a 15 kg parcel cannot come into india unnoticed.

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth

There is still chemistry for processing regular chrome (positive) films like Kodak Ektachrome and Fuji Velvia, but Kodachrome was a completely different and multistep beast.
    • Ceilidh
Ah, but how to get it processed - that is the question. I believe that the last machine able to run K-14 (Kodachrome processing) ceased to operate some 15 or so years ago. Perhaps the film will be worth something as a curiosity in my estate sale when I die. 😺

Take a lot of photos!   If the film has deteriorated or 'gone off' in any way, you can use that as a 'feature' to take 'arty' pictures - whether of landmarks, or people, or whatever.
