Spring and love arrived on a bird's sweet song. "How does that little box sound like birds and laughter?" I asked the gypsy violinist. He leaned back, pointing to his violin. "Look inside, you'll see the birdies sing to me" soft laughter in his voice. "I hear them, I can almost see them!", I shouted as his bow danced on the strings. "Ah yes" he said, "your heart is a violin." Shony Alex Braun

And look at this Benz auction rolleyes.gif

Pity the poor sod who upped the bid to the current US$202.50, when you can get an exact one from James P for only US$130 headsmack.gif

Unless, of course, "Bidder 6" is a shill bidder lticaptd.gif

But then you wouldn't be getting a Phillip Benz exclusive™! roflmho.gif

There's less than 6 hours to the end of the auction and now "Bidder 5" had upped the ante to US$404.99 headsmack.gif

So it's true... There's a sucker born every minute!! lticaptd.gif roflmho.gif animal26.gif

I had come back to the board to ask about exactly that same auction.

Apparently this guy is quite familiar with the phenomenon of 'anchor and adjust' valuation.

poor soul sad.gif sad.gif

or maybe mr. benz bid himself as a sort of stimulation for other bidders and advertising of his collection?

it is hard to believe that someone start bidding without looking for the prices on the market.

Would that be dropping the anchor on the head of the unsuspecting, than adding a buyers premium to the already absurd charges for the wares referred to as The Benz Collection? ohmy.gif

Will buyers ever wise up to the "idiot tax" they are paying for these allegedly "rare", ahem, ummm, beauties? rolleyes.gif

I hate the way Ebay now hides bidder details on high bid items, but from the limited information bidder 5 seems to have been around a while unlike some of the others. Could he be a genuine bidder?

Even in the UK could have bought a couple of the pens for the current bid, in the US nearly 4 assuming he's not a shill bidder, don't people research prices at all?

What exactly does supermint mean? And will it make my breath superfresh?

"The person who takes the banal and ordinary and illuminates it in a new way can terrify. We do not want our ideas changed. We feel threatened by such demands. 'I already know the important things!' we say. Then Changer comes and throws our old ideas away."

I have bid on about three auctions of his. In all cases I was outbid. It might be shill bidding, but the profiles of those who outbid me all had a significant number of purchses, rather eclectic in nature. None of them seemed to be pen collectors, and none of the final bids were particularly high.

You should get a Yink, I think.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
