De Atramentis Document Ink - Brown

De Atramentis is german manufacturer of calligraphy and writing ink. The inks are hand made (the entire production process is done manually in their manufacturing center) by i's founder - Dr. Franz-Josef Jensen. I believe he uses high quality dyes from well established European companies like BASF and Bayer.

De Atramentis offers a variety of "traditional" fountain pen inks and a broad selection of special and scented inks. I believe they should get more attention as the quality od these fluids is rather good and many of the colors are simply stunning.

Document inks are permanent and waterproof. I confirm - water does nothing to them. Time will tell if light influences them in any way.

The colors are:

  1. Blue
  2. Brown
  3. Dark Blue
  4. Fuchsia
  5. Green
  6. Red
  7. Turquoise
  8. Yellow

Brown is moderately saturated and fully waterproof brown ink. It behaves well on most papers. It won't become my favourite brown, that's sure. However if you want to have all-proof brown ink, you may consider this one.

Dziękuję bardzo for reviewing this ink! I've been interested in this ink but am veering towards my favorites, Noodler's Walnut and Pelikan Brown. This one is a nice brown, but kindv not interesting enough. Might be my current phase of hunkering down as regards pens and inks, though. (That is, wanting not to be interested, hahaha.)

Hm. The shade of the brown itself is good, but it's a little too pale for my tastes. If it darkens some over time, as many document-type inks do, it might work. But otherwise, another one I'll have to pass on.

Hmmm. I have a sample of this but haven't tried it yet (the other De Atramentis Document inks haven't wowed me -- they've had a tendency towards spreading). And in this case, the color isn't really doing it for me either.

Thanks for the review though.

"It's very nice, but frankly, when I signed that list for a P-51, what I had in mind was a fountain pen."

I am glad I purchased Rohrer & Klingner's Documentis Brown first. It is an ink I am always happy to use; just tonite I chose it to address an envelope, one of the few times I care about water resistance. I have had it in a Kaweco Sport, eyedropper filled for more than a year, merely a good shake & it is ready to write.
