Pelikan Pura - Converter Usage?

Today arrived a nice Pelikan Pura, the pen writes lovely and smooth and a real steal for just over a tenner.

I tried fitting it with a converter and no matter what kind I used they would not stay on the nipple. I have tried Pelikan / Schmidt / even some cheap Chinese converters but none of them would stick.
Cartridges seem to stick slightly better.

I asked a slightly more savvy friend and they did not have a clue (they moved down the savvy scale).

So I thought I would come to the Pelikan experts:

Does the Pura hate converters?

Thanks for any advice you can give.

Congratulations on your new Pelikan. I do not have a Pura and can't speak from first hand knowledge but I do have experience with Pelikan converters and what you describe is actually how Pelikan has designed their cartridge/converter system in my experience. Schmidt and Pelikan converters should certainly fit it and here's how...

The converter and even cartridges will fit loosely on the nipple. It's very unreassuring. The design uses the back of the barrel to secure the cartridge/converter to the nipple so while not secure with the barrel disassembled, it tightens up when the barrel is replaced. While I can't speak first hand about the Pura, this holds true for the Twist, Pelikano, Pelikano Jr, and Script. With cartridges you put one on the nipple and another rear facing to provided the appropriate length such that the barrel will apply the necessary torque. I don't love this design but it seems to be the way it is. I assume the Pura works similarly.

Brian Goulet discussed this a while back on his site; http://blog.gouletpens.com/2011/09/fitting-converter-on-pelikano-and-jr.html

Hope that helps.

I own a Pura (early model), but I never used it with a converter.

I just tried it. And indeed the converter does not stick to the pen at all, while a cartridge does (not very secure, but it does not fall off like the converter).

I bought a Pura which I'm pretty sure came with a Pelikan converter a few years ago from Niche Pens, and though wobbly it has always worked perfectly.

The newer P200/P205 pens seem to work the same way. I have never had any issues when I used a converter with my P205.
