Pics! I'd like to see this in a real world setting instead of company photos.

well, here you go--just received these two pens, for a friend and for myself. both pens have gorgeous IB nibs, which we got on special order from novelli in italy at no extra cost:

Beautiful Pens! I recently purchased a blue M805 and I am trying my hardest to stick to my one Pelikan a year rule!

now here's a pic of the actual writing, with the IB nib. it was a great nib to begin with, but i tuned it some more for a smoother, wetter flow:

the ink is R&K sepia.

  • 2 weeks later...

and for those who may be wondering about this, i decided to take a shot of my MB hemingway alongside the orange M800. you'll note that the hemingway's orange is a shade deeper:

Great shot, thanks for sharing it. And phew - I prefer the colour of the Pelikan!

I chose my user name years ago - I have no links to BBS pens (other than owning one!)

Hey, thanks, Sharookh! ;) didn't even realize it was out there, although I did post a link on my blog, which very few people read.

do you mind giving us a writing sample of your medium and broad Birds. I just want to see pen, ink and nice handwriting all together

I can promise you pen and ink, but definitely not 'nice' handwriting.....!!

Hi there - I'm thinking about this pen. Are the dark parts brown? And how do you feel about the pen not having an ink window?

Thanks for the info!

I honestly cannot say if it is brown. When I put it side by side with one that I know it's black I can see that they are not exactly the same, otherwise it seems black to me. As for the ink window, I would prefer if it had one, but (clearly) it wasn't a deal breaker for me.

I think the Burnt Orange is one of the most beautiful M800s. It is colorful but the orange isn't too bright to be excessive, just perfect (of course, that is my opinion). If you have the opportunity, I'd say go for it, it is unlikely that you would regret.

The dark part is brown, but is so dark that for it to appear brown the light must be correct, or in average light compare it to a known black object.

I have a soft white led lamp and it appears as dark brown, especially next to one of the Montblanc black pens. I just took it out into the sunshine and the brown really pops out next to the black. It looks like a piece of dark chocolate candy.

Regards

Jeff

Thanks Lam1! I've been going back and forth about this pen - not knowing whether I like the unusual binde. It kind of breaks the mold for Pelikan and I'm wondering whether that's a good thing or not. If I'm honest I usually don't peer into my Stresemann to see if there's ink left. Maybe with the large reservoir, it's not such an issue. The lack of a window does bother me on c/c's because they tend to run out.

Just did the same thing and agree with you. Under the correct (white) light it is clearly dark brown. Good call.

I totally understand, since I had the same concerns. Particularly because I prefer somewhat understated pens and I was concerned with the orange, which sometimes can be too flashy for my taste. But for me the decision was made easier because I wanted an italic broad nib badly, and when I found this one with IB then I was basically sold on it.

Since it seems that you are in New York, perhaps you could pay a visit to Fountain Pen Hospital to see it in person, before making a decision (although I understand that this is a risky proposition: I could never enter FPH, or any other good B&M, with my wallet. Under the risk of going broke immediately :) ).

As for the lack of ink window, for piston filled pens I found that when the ink runs out one can always move the piston in and get one more page, which is enough to round things up. So, even though not optimal, I can live without the ink window.

Decisions about pens purchases are difficult, aren't they? :D I am struggling between 3 or 4 pens for my next pen purchase and cannot seem to come to a solution for the dilemma.

Good luck with your decision.
