Everybody, just be aware that finding these snake/lizard pattern celluloids is really difficult. When I work with them, it's material that the customer has provided. I don't have a source. I have a few different celluloids though, like the material on the M1000 posted a while back. :)

Here are the three M80X pens that Shawn replaced the binde on for me... Can't describe how pleased I am with these three pens.

Oh wow, that is seriously beautiful....

 

I especially like the blue one.

 

 

Too bad that: 1 that was very limited stock, and 2 I don't have a pen that could be used for this form of plastic/cosmetic surgery.

Yesterday I received my M800 that was customized by Shawn Newton.

My standard black M800 now has a grey lizard binde. I have been wanting a pen like this for a long time and am quite delighted.

The binde looks stunning and the work that Shawn done clearly shows great craftsmanship and professionalism!

It will be one of my daily writers, next to my M800 tortoise.

I can vouch for the quality of Shawn's work.

Outstanding craftsmanship, beautifully done binde, I was luck that the material could be found.

The material I was told is vintage celluloid, it gives the pen a very smooth and warm feeling quite unlike the other Pelican pens that I have.

I have been in the shops quite often, looking at the Pelican M101N Lizard pen, held it in my hands many times but never made a purchase due to it being too small for my hands.

This M800 with the Lizard binde is just right in every way and I am quite happy that Shawn was willing to take on the project.

For those who have one, can I assume these custom bindes don't allow you to see your ink supply?

Shawn kept that ink window intact so it works as before. The picture does not clearly show this since I filled the pen with ink.

I do not know how this would work out with other bindes.

More bindes? :)

 

This is made with some pretty green acrylic that had Conklin written on it.

M800

This binde is made from a very transparent acrylic called Rose Tortoise. It's got a really pretty reddish sheen when the light hits it just right.

M600 I think.

The imagination, creative vision, and sheer workmanship of these new bindes is fantastic!

 

I respect the quest for the originals and indeed these are what i look for myself in my very limited way. But as long as an original rare pen has not been destroyed and the owner is satisfied that the pen to have its binde replaced is a suitable candidate, then "pimp my pen".

 

I believe Pelikan would have liked to offer an additional range in addition to their classic bindes if not for cost/market reasons and the appeal to limited collectors editions.

I actual prefer the second one. Makes me sort of think of of malachite.

So what are the bindes actually made of (please don't say Con-tact paper... :blush:)?

      Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

      It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

      Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

      @asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
