Blackstone Ink - Breaking News

Along with the Sydney Harbour Blue, the Blackstone Blue (different ink family, single dye only) is one of my standard office inks. The Blackstone Black is another ink that is well worth having in your ink arsenal.

I've been using the standard Blackstone Blue fountain pen ink from JustWrite for some time (non-concentrated, already diluted liquid, not powder), and it performs very well. Nice shading, quick drying, a very very slight fade after a few hours, cleans easily. It's also inexpensive (I bought it in the 60ml plastic sachet).

I believe that's their "washable" blue I remember reading in their product description, and I am hoping that Blackstone Australian series inks are more resilient than the washable version. I dislike "washable" blues (what makes them washable, I am not sure) because they tend to fade in just a few days in a closed notebook. Washable blues I tried: MB Royal Blue, Pelikan Royal Blue, Waterman's Florida Blue etc.

Yes it is sold as "washable" but altho' it fades very slightly on thorough drying I can see no discernible further fading in any of my notebooks. But then, I'm not one of these people who cares about water-resistance in ink. I've written with water-soluable, washable inks in journals, notebooks and for letters, for over 40 years and all of that writing is still perfectly legible.

Wow! Beautiful series of inks there - and to think they're local and I won't have to pay a bazzilon dollars to get them shipped ...

And you are precisely the target market.

Kevin will be sending samples of the Blackstone ink to the SF Pen Show, to be included in the ink sample table. :)

So those of you going to the show will be able to sample the ink.

Thanks Kevin.

Note, the inks will be preloaded into pens for you to write with.

No, you don't get to load up your own pens with the sample inks.

Front row left to right: 5ml concentrate syringe (makes 60ml), 30ml, 60 ml translucent, 60ml amber, 30ml amber, 15ml amber.

Back row left to right: 1L plastic jerry can, 1L bottle, 500ml bottle, 250ml twin chamber bottle (fill directly from chamber).

I guess I'm the only Noob in this thread. :)

I looked ahead and didn't see anyone ask this. I've never seen a twin chamber bottle. How does one fill directly from it?

What an exciting development! And I like the syringe packaging for concentrate. Very cool and practical.

Migo very kindly sent me a sample of Blackstone Blue and I can confirm it is a great shading blue. Now I am figuring out which of the available sizes I want as I can see this as a 'go to' ink.

You tighten the cap to the main chamber, and then loosen the cap to the little chamber.

Squeeze the main chamber (gently) and fluid flows up the little tube on the side into the little chamber.

Then you can remove the cap to the little chamber and pour the contents of that chamber into a bottle.

Usually used for windscreen washer cleaner, where you want to put 20 or 40 mls of washer liquid into your car's washer reservoir.

Normally getting over-enthusiastic with washer detergent isn't a major disaster, but you would need to be careful with ink...

Barrier Reef Blue (BRB) in the 30ml bottle that Kevin sent to the SF Pen Show ink sampling does sheen.

I did not notice it at first, cuz I was not looking for sheen, until it was pointed out to me.

The redish sheen was the most pronounced on BRB and less so on Sydney Harbor Blue.

These are really really nice looking inks. Any water resistance at all??

Unfortunately not.

Well, you wouldn't need water resistance for Uluru Red or Black Stump Black, as it's desert out there, and very little water available. However, you'd think that Barrier Reef or Sydney Harbour Blues would at least be resistant to seawater...

OTOH, they do rinse out of pens really easily.

I wonder if Kevin will have a US distributor of the Blackstone inks.

I know Anderson's has the Toucan inks, maybe they will also pick up the Blackstone inks.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
