Franklin Christoph Dark Chocolate

 

I recently received samples of all the current Franklin Christoph inks. First generation inks including Black Magic, Dark Denim and Syrah, Syrah (which have all been favorably reviewed here) have been discontinued. Current FC inks include:

 

Classic Black

Blue 72

Red 187

Brown 732

Emerald 357

Noir et Bleu

Dark Chocolate

Midnight Emerald.

 

The numbers following the colors indicate their Pantone number.

 

Midnight Emerald, Red 187 and Emerald 357 have already been reviewed. Today I'll be reviewing Dark Chocolate.

 

Dark Chocolate is a very well behaved, well saturated ink with very nice shading. It is dark enough to be appropriate for professional use. It cleaned easily out of the pens I used. Specifics of this review can be read below. The first two pages were written on Rhodia paper. The third page is Franklin Christoph notebook paper. The last page was written on Canson Tracing Paper.

BTW...the splotch on the bottom doodle picture is because I dropped the Diamine Sepia swab on the doodling. I'm ashamed to say I was too lazy to do a do-over.

That was another nice review & I am happy to have seen it as I think I could like this ink. It is certainly what it's name implies & I have several dark browns but I might just have to "add" this one if the new Panther comes into existence!

Suddenly, I'm interested in Franklin Christoph ink. Do you know where I can buy it, or at least window shop and pretend I have money? All I can find is their official site, which doesn't seem to have it for sale.

I do not think I have ever ordered "online" for anything from Franklin Christoph. BUT if you go to their website (HOME PAGE)

There is a banner across the top & underneath is a listing for "INK" which has a "drop down" that offers: 1) Refills & 2) INK CELLAR

 

The inks are listed & described from that location (the INK CELLAR.) I just looked @ the site to make sure & indeed there is a "box" on the left side of each ink's listing that offers "add to cart"option so apparently that should lead to an order for ink.

 

I have always telephoned an order for a pen, case or nib because I usually wanted to ask a question. I have ordered my ink during those phone calls. They are always extremely nice & helpful so you should be able to do either. Enjoy!

Oh, thanks! For me it's above all of the inks rather than next to each ink for some reason, so it really confused me.

 

I can't really justify buying it right now, but it is definitely going on my list next to another 4-5 browns that I want to try. I might have a problem, but if I do, I don't want the cure!

No need to ever do over. Great review. Thank you for sharing.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

      Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

      It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

      Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

      Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

      @asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
