Brand Loyalty

I notice that there are people who are very loyal to a brand of pen ( Parker, Pelikan, etc..) Is this normal? What causes this affliction?

Brand loyalty is a consumer reality. It generally results from repeated satisfaction of a

product. However, it is "temporary" to varying extents. Eventually, we all seek something

better or different. This applies to fountain pens, automobiles, and even home country

(immigration). However, you made one error -- There is nothing "normal" about what we

do here.

Auf freiem Grund mit freiem Volke stehn.
Zum Augenblicke dürft ich sagen:
Verweile doch, du bist so schön !

For me it was the fountain pens that I used in college.

However, I am not above jumping ship if I find another good pen, such as Esterbrooks.

And brands that I did not even know about back in college.

So there is brand loyalty, but only to a point.

Unlike a SLR camera, where you are buying into a system (body, lens, motor drive, filters, etc.), fountain pens stand alone. So there is really nothing preventing you from jumping ship.

I hunt and gather haphazardly. I have a wide array of makers and models. Soon, though, I'll narrow down a pen to collect. But I've been saying that for a while now.
