leather pen cases

I have been toying with the idea of buying a leather pen case, I usually have three pens with me for editing. I have seen many different styles of cases under different brand names, but have been wondering if they fit different pens or are they pen specific.

Has anyone had problems where certain cases are not conducive to mixing? Hope this makes sense.

I would worry about how the leather was treated rather than the size of the holder.

Some of the leather that are not vegetable tanned will corrode trim and metal.

As for size:

Montblanc Sienna 3-pen fits most pens up to 149 size.

Nicolai by Piquardo (2-pen zipper wallet) fits Dani Trio Mikado (at least with space to wiggle). The leather is vegetable tanned for this line of Piquardo and so a tad more than the nice looking non-vegetable tanned Piquardo line

I'd pass on Conway Stewart 2 or 3-pen credit card wallet pen holder since they only fit up to 100 size (extremely tight) and not Churchill.

Piquardo 3-pen flap pouch is nice for everyday carry but do not put pens in direct contact with the beautiful leather, it corroded my sterling Cross bad.

Venlo 6-pen carry case is nice but will fit a MB 149 very snugly.

My $0.02.

I've got a Conway Stewart leather pen wallet that's designed to hold 2 pens. It has a plastic insert inside the leather pouch with grooves in it to cradle the pens in padded comfort. It was great for more slender pens, but I couldn't fit a bulkier pen, such as a Moneteverde Mega Ink Ball in it. So I simply removed the plastic insert and it now holds 3 pens very comfortably. I've no concerns about my pens actually touching each other, since I tend to carry pens I'm going to write with and are subject to the bumps and knocks of everyday usage anyway.

I have a Pelikan three pen leather case and it fits from a M100 to M800 without any problems, in fact my three pens I carry are M805, M625 and M100 (white and black). Cheers.

Col,

True, but they remind me ever so slightly of the original Pelikan cases that I occasionally bid on and don't get.

Wouldn't use if for my Legacys with laquered finishes but probably Ok for Pelikans or Balance II or any pen with a celluloid/plastic/acrylic body.

ravelling,

They still come up quite regularly, seen them on ebay in the last couple of weeks, often listed under Pelikan (which they also sell).

To be honest since I started using Cigar cases (the telescopic type a couple on months back), I rarely use my usual leather pen cases. Recently bought a hard leather cigar case (might be leather covered wood) with four individual fingers that is fast becoming a favourite as it fits any of my pens easily (including CS 100, Duro, Legacys, Balance II Duofold International, Connaisseur and M800) could probably fit larger pens but these are the biggest I have.

Looks similar to the Waterman two finger pen case.

What a great idea -- I had never considered a cigar case before. What model/brand did you find that is telescopic, to suit a range of sizes?

I have a Pelikan 2-pen case and it is fine for my 805 and 605 but too tall for my 200 series pens. I clip the smaller pens over the side where the case is the thinnest.

No particular brand, have a look at the link below (EU listings) and there are a few there, quite a few in the USA if you want to search.

Only problem is that sometimes on the 3 finger ones, the middle finger is a bit smaller, I usually use this for a BP.

If you search on this number there is a completed sale on a 3 finger version of the latest 4 finger one I have , this could easily become a favourite. I was going to bid on this one, but price went too high taking account of shipping taxes etc. The 4 finger one I picked up unused at an antique fair for £10 (such a good price I didn't insult the seller by haggling)

I love pen cases to keep my pens in, kepps then secure safe tidy in good nick, I have two, a Bowen Lamy leather case that I keep my two P51's in and a black leather Pelikan case that holds my Lamy 2000, VP, and Visconti Van Gogh.

these both work very nicely, the other option that I think looks nice is a cigar case...there are some models that are specifically treated so as to not damage the silver/brass trim on pens, however if you use your pens regularly and polish them then you should be fine with a normal leather pen case...

You shouldn't have any problems with the cases as long as there well paded. There are a few dealers at the Toronto pen show that should have a nice selection of cases if you are able to make it and have yet to aquire a case.

I'll be there, hope to see some more FPNers there!

Pearce.
