Akkerman #28 Hofkwartier Groen

Recently I become obsessed with green inks, which I normally don't like that much. It's probably a seasonal thing. This is Akkerman #28 Hofkwartier Groen, a lovely yellow green. I like it a lot.

If Akkermans are truly Diamine rebottled, which Diamine is this? Is it Kelly Green or Meadow Green? I'm thinking about getting Meadow Green but I don't want two mostly identical inks.

Comparison

Greens compared: Akkerman #28, Sailor Bung Box Happiness, R&K Verdura, Montblanc Irish Green, J. Herbin Lierre sauvage, Iroshizuku Shin-ryoku and R&K Gelbgrün. The last one is a calligraphy pigmented ink not for fountain pens.

The Las Vegas Pen Posse did an Akkerman Ink group buy for the LA Pen show in 2013. We had many conversations with Mr. Akkerman while ordering the ink. We asked him about the Diamine connection and he said that his ink doesn't come from them. A company that doesn't make fountain pen ink for anyone else makes his.

 

Of the greens you posted, I like the MB Irish Green the best.

Thanks for the review. It's a pretty color, but a bit too light. This would give me a lot of eyestrain over the long haul. But seeing inks I *don't* want is easily as useful as inks I do want to buy.

Your handwriting is gorgeous! I like the color, but I like the Bung Box Happiness sample better than the Akkermann.

@Frank C - I dunno. I've compared most of their inks and Akkerman ones are Diamine's clones; there's just too many similarities. Hopjesbruin is Diamine's Sepia (chromatography is identical), Voorhut Violet is Damson (chromatography again), Mauristhuis Magenta is Deep Magenta, Mauristhuis Magenta = Deep Magenta, Zuiderpark Baluw Groen = Teal, Residentie Blauw = China Blue, Groenmarkt Smaragd = Umber. If it was just one color and one similar chromatography I would say - OK, accident happens, but I'm pretty sure that if I was given samples of all Akkerman's I would pair them with their Diamine twin. They may use Diamine as a base and add something because some of the inks don't behave the same in pen but chromatograophy shows they're basically the same.

I agree that the possibility of two inks from different sources having the same chromatographic signature approaches zero. I am only saying what Mr. Ackerman told me. Of course, the bottom line is that if you like the ink and/or the bottle, you should buy it, if not, there are plenty of other inks out there.

I'd be very interested in seeing chromatography results of of Diamine Registrars vs. Akkerman #10. Because I'm absolutely convinced that they are NOT the same. DRBB oxidized to a very washy blue-grey; the Akkerman is much much darker (and oxidized to almost black).

The Akkerman inks might be made by Diamine. But that's as far as I will concede to. Unless, for some reason, I got a bad batch of the DRBB. But I have preferred nearly every IG ink I've ever tried to that (blue-black or otherwise).

I like this ink very much. If you want something similar that's more easily obtained, try Noodler's Gruene Cactus Eel or Caran d'Ache Vibrant Green. Obviously, for US buyers, the Noodler's is quite a bit less expensive.
