Does the cap also say PARKER?

Also, are the insides of the cap and clutch basket gold in color?

Parker is imprinted in all caps and the same typeface, but about twice the size, along the rim on the opposite side of the cap from the GF hallmark. There is no arrow or other logo. The degree of wear is about the same as the imprint in the photos.

The inside of the cap and clutch basket are gold colored (with some staining and scratching), but the gold color looks much more brassy than the outside. This differs from what I assume is a later GF cap which has brassy colored innards, but a steel looking clutch basket.

I have full confidence that you're about to tell me I've stumbled on a rare and priceless treasure. :yikes:

Clip looks fake. Whole cap might be fake; gold-plated brass.

For what it's worth, I got the cap with a decrepit P51 Vac. I kept the nib (genuine as far as I can tell, hallmarked Canada 1945, and a very nice writer) and the cap and sold the rest off for parts. I guess the cap can't be original for a 45 Vac.

Comparing it to two other long clip GF caps, the length is right, but the feathers on the arrow of this clip are coarser.

So there exist fake 51 caps too. I didn't know that. But here is the proof now. The " 14KR GOLD FILLED" imprint too indicated it was fake.

Thank you -Daniel.

My thoughts were a plated cap. The arrow is to heavy and looks plated. Clutch baskets are always silver in color. The imprint is consistent with a copy as suggested.

Or I agree.

Here is a 3-4 years old picture of the 1/10 12 ct R.GOLD tarnishing cap that I showed in post #7 for comparison with its present tarnishing state.

-Daniel , it is the same cap. But I think I managed to cure the ailment of the cap. Good soak in vinegar almwast washed out the tarnishing. Would share pics with you. It is dark now here.

If the ailment is that the gold layer has worn off in spots, no amount of vinegar will cure that.

You are right --Daniel. It didn't work. It looked as if the ailment was gone. But soon it returned . Say in about 1-2 hours.

Generally speaking, soaking pen parts in acid isn't a great idea.

--Daniel how can I remove the cluh basket from iside the cap? I want it to be plated by a jeweller. I was able to remove the clip but the inner cap wouldn't come out unless the cluch basket is first removed. It is the eirlier five fingers closed basket and not the later version 4 fingers open basket.

Removal requires a special tool.

Reviving this to ask one quick question: Does one of these tools better than the other? Laurence’s has the benefit of being able to be used on a much wider variety of caps, but is the windowed design of the pentooling one better for P51s? (Most of my cap work will involve P51s.)
