Pilot 823 Cap Disassembly

I need help with my Pilot Custom 823 cap. It seems I somehow got ink into the cap behind the interior nib receptacle. How is is disassembled so I can clean it out and get rid of the ink that has collected between the bottom of the cap and the top?

Oh sure...I found that the top of the cap screws off...but it is best to have the pen securely screwed into the cap when you screw it off. Then the ring and the clip come off..and you push a retainer ring and nib holding tube down through the cap and out.

Be careful when re-assembling to turn that retaining ring the right way (tread up towards cap) before pressing it all in gently, screwing pen into the cap, affixing the clip, ring, and then finally tightening the screw on cap. All the treads are very fine, so be careful not to cross tread and strip anything..

 

That's all there is to it.

 

It took me a while to figure out that it was much easier if the pen was screwed into the cap.

Thanks for the information. I have managed to get some ink up there myself. I just live with it. One of these days I'll try your technique.

hmm... I found this thread from google when I was searching: Pilot custom 823 cap - I found a hairline crack on edge of the cab by using a magnifier, the cracking line hasn't reached the edge yet. Not sure how that happened, as I brought this pen brand new and only used it for less than a month, compare this pen with my MB146, the material used on Pilot is actually thicker, but no problem with the Montblanc 146 even it's a 30+ years old pen.

The plastic in the 823 seems a little prone to cracking. Perhaps that's the only real problem with these pens. I'd send it back to Pilot for repair.

yeah - I contact the seller and he/she couldn't help me out, though it seems fair to me.

I live in Australia, not sure if the amber colour 823 is for JDM or international... anyway, will manage to contact Pilot to see if they can do anything.

 

by the way, cap design of the old Pelikan 400 looks perfect - it even has the inner metal trim which was cancelled from current production.
