Kaweco Liliput Aged - Pictures ?

Recommended Posts

Hello to all,

I just had in hand this afternoon a Kaweco Liliput and... :puddle: :puddle: :puddle: that model !!!

The copper version looks very appealing, then the brass version. The alu one is not heavy enough to my taste.

My question is about how do these two pen are aging? Because they should, as they are not protected by any vernish, according to what I saw. I'm a little bit afraid of having a greenish copper pen. And regarding brass, my Buck 110 knive is well aged, but shows a finger print I wish it is not here.

Does anybody have a "used" and aged Liliput he could show to see how it's aging? Pictures seem very rare on the net.

Thank you.

ps: do you regret your buy of a Liliput? Any kind of regrets...

Many thanks.

Maybe regretting that I'm a bit over-klutzy? I had a black Lilliput EF and lost it. Then replaced it with another just like it that I also thought I'd lost. It slipped out of my pocket and slid down behind the seat in my truck.

Writes nicely, and it's my designated backup, in case I only take one pen with me that runs out of ink; the Lilliput is waiting in a watch pocket ready to take over. It's also gone through the wash at least once with no leaking or any other visible issue.

So it survived to a washing machine test? Good to know.

Thanks.

@Water Ouzel: Nice photo site... :)

Thanks! It's on hiatus for a while, until we finish building our home out here in the howling wilderness, at least. At least then I'll be close to the bugs and weeds, and ready to get back in the field.

At least I can still use my pens in the interim.

I have a brass Lilliput aging in my coin pocket as I type. The patina has not developed as fast as I'd like, but that is okay. This is a long term project. The brass is robust and hasn't even developed major dings. I don't want to post pre-mature pictures as it may disappoint.

I just saw the copper version and started drooling. It's on my must-buy list for the DC Pen Show.

I've had the aluminium Lilliput for a year a more, it's my pocket pen. I don't treat any of my pens badly but a pocket pen by definition is going to need to be fairly tough and my Lilliput is, the finish still looks great and has only the micro scratches you would expect any pocket pen to have, it's been dropped a few times and doesn't show any traces of damage. I tweaked my EF nib to write a bit drier so even when the pen is shook not even a drop leaks.

I like my aluminium Lilliput so much that I've just ordered a brass wave version :D

You know you can chemically treat it to oxidase quiker

Thanks to all. So aging is slow... okay. From what I read from brass watches forum, it can take 2 or more year to show some patina.

@the blue knight. Yes, I know that I can use chemicals, but I prefer a "natural" aging.

Not to toot my own horn, but I did this video review of a Liliput in brass. It's not my pen so I'm not exactly sure how "old" the patina is, but it was most obvious on the section and decently shiny still on the barrel.

You've got a good review style, nice honest reviews, I've subscribed on youtube.

Thanks! I'm still pretty new to the video reviewing so that means a lot to me. :-)

You know what? When I was looking for information about the Liliput, I've watched your video and enjoyed it a lot :) Especially the part regarding copper B) and the patina.

The nip note was very good, too. In fact... all the review was good to listen to.

Update: Resistance was futile. I bought the copper version, and after a couple of... days (bought it Saturday), it already have a nice patina on the barrel, where I place my fingers. The outside is still shiny, especially the cap.

Cool. My copper version already shows a real nice patina. I'll post pics in the next few days. It's interesting to note there are two kinds of patina.

Hi to all !

So... here are some pictures of a Kaweco Liliput, Copper version.

I bought it saturday 25th of April, so in less than one month, it got its patina...

The cap is slighty darker than the body, as there are more manipulation on that part.

The place where the fingers hold the pen is different that the exterior part of the FP. It's a kind of orange that seems translucid, and the traces of milling tool are not visible anymore.

As a "reminder" of the original color when bought, I've unscrewed the body. This part, untouched, protected from ambient air, does not show any patina.

Am I happy with the color? Yes I am! It now looks as an "old" objects, an antique. As it doesn't shine much, it is more invisible to eyes and doesn't bring too much attention, which I like.

I didn't take any particualr attention to it, but didn't beat it either.

Feel free to comment or ask questions... or post your pictures ;)

Thanks for reading

Nice!! Really nice. They make it hard to not want one, pictures like these. I was expecting the patina to be less uniform, but it's fairly even, really. Like writing with a well worn penny. How does it feel, any different? Edited by hot cocoa

Indeed, the patina is fairly even. I was expecting, too, something with slight variations. Some variations are present, but barely visible on pictures. I'm expecting these variations to be more visible in the future.

I have a piece of copper tubing on my desk. I don't touch it very often, so the patina has been created just be atmosphere's exposition. It is fairly even, too.

If the writing is the same, not being affected by the patina, of course, I just happy to see the shiny copper being replaced by something "aged".

Writing quality of the pen is another subject. It writes well, but sometimes it skips (and I hate that). The nib was not correctly align, so in the beginning it was worst. But I realigned it. I'm mainly writing on a Habana, where it skips. On my Rhodia planner, where the paper is less "silky", it writes well.

I have to apply certain pressure for the ink to flow, so after, let say, 10 minutes, it's a little bit tiring. I was aware of these "problems", as many blogs point these out.

But just for the color of the Kaweco blue-black ink... it's a real pleasure to see words taking life on paper.

Of course it's a bit expensive. I think 75$ should be a fair price... but... well, this was a special buy for me, and don't regret it.
