Lamy 2000 Anniversary?

I don't know about that, even if I do agree with the general statement. How is steel a material for our times? And the various BP anniversary editions show that the design ethos of Lamy is more a guideline than a rule anyway (ceramic is OK, but how wood could be?). And it seems to me that Lamy is aiming at a higher price niche recently (D3, Imporium - a remake of the Persona-, 2K steel)

 

I agree that a 2K in a contemporary material would have been interesting. See what StDupont is doing with their armor line...

 

What would but such a material? carbon? ceramic? plastic(s)? titanium?

The problem is that the current Lamy 2000 is almost an exact reproduction of the original with proper recognition to the iconic design. So they would be coming out with the same pen. So basically you just want them to come out with a booklet for the anniversary?

 

In all fairness, I'm not going to spend nearly $600 on this pen. But maybe some will. I honestly do not know. Something like an 18k red gold nib would've been nice or something, but we'll wait and see how this one sells.

 

Not just the booklet, but the edition of a facsimile: All the engravings in the cap and the section, the first stainless steel clip, the disc at the knob with the L imprint, and of course the booklet / packaging with the entire history behind the pen. That would be a homage to an iconic design.

 

It's the same with the commemorative editions of the Montblanc 149 or the 146 along the years... a simple number on the nib does it, they don't need to do a gold-whatever-pen because they already have done those evolution designs and develop parallel lines to the Meisterstück line called Meisterstück Solitaire, their clients are satisfied in being able to buy something different than the same 'old' stuff and everyone is happy.

 

Lamy already do that by launching the stainless steel version of the pen, which scurries away from the ethos of the pen but satisfies the need of evolution-next-new thing we can buy...

 

They could still continue to develop a sideline for their iconic design, it's their right and no doubt they'll find costumers for those lines, but I wouldn't like to see the 2000 design become or suffer what the design of the Pelikan 400 suffered to a certain extent, for example the multiple sizes, infinite materials, whatever finishes, etc. I understand why Pelikan did it and to whom they tried to bring up competition, but I do not see myself buying an M1000 Urushi whatever pen, I would rather buy a Japanese pen within that scope.

 

Pelikan diverted themselves from being the company that brought quality writing instruments to the masses and change their view of which market they could pursue with their normal/regular lines of pens and began to produce sideline products to addres that business core.

 

I would not like to see the Lamy 2000 became a niche product... like the new Fiat 500 or the new Mini, for example, that's all.

Yes, the L2000 Black Amber anniversary will also come in BP and RB. I have seen no MP, though.

 

BP was around 250 euro, RB 300 and FP 500

colour, balance of colour, the proportion of black and silver was a battle of fractions of millimetres, especially for the 2000. change of colour or material throws it all away. How arrogant and insensitive to change this. Doing this to tradition and reputation. Disrespectful.

 

Calling this a celebration? Yuck! It says a lot about the people who made such decisions.

The steel 2k is a nice addition to a one model line, I I am grateful for this one since the regular 2K is too light for me; but the pen is not without downsides: for instance, it's very awkward to write with the pen capped, the cap being so heavy.

I don't see here anything that would be attractive, besides the fact Lamy produced this pen for the 50th anniversary of "Lamy design". And the price... argh!

The chore idea of a "modern" fountain pen is that it cannot repeat itself. As Baudelaire would say, being modern is to look at today's world and express its intrinsic beauty.

I understand that it is a pen for celebration, but still: what would be a material for a 2016 2K? something "green"? something from the best science development? and didn't Lamy had it right in producing only BPs for their previous celebrations?

As I have said before, "black amber" is the name given to a from of amber.

 

Amber is a natural product, usually somewhat toffee coloured. There apparently also are darker versions, one of those is called "black amber" Apparently one of the people at Lamy thought this pen-colour reminded him of that colour.
