Leonhardt Hemispherical Pointed Nibs From Chile

An unopened box of 144 Leonhardt nibs has come to me, found in an antique store in Chile. I do know that Leonhardt nibs are still made and are considered to be quite good, but I have no knowledge of their vintage nibs. The box is sealed, but came with a number of other Leonhardt nibs. The box also does not indicate which nibs are in it; they may or may not all be the same as the 10 loose Leonhardt nibs, all of which are marked "521EF". There is no marking on the box that I can see that refers to which nibs are contained in it. There are also 8 loose Esterbrook nibs, also EF, marked "717EF Federal" nibs; and one loose nib that is identical to the Esterbrooks but is marked "HInks Wells, Republica de Chile".

I'd be interested in any information about the sealed box. In addition, please feel free to let me know if you are interested in these before I list them in Classifieds.

Thanks!

I did a search with those parameters: hemispherical pointed nib boxes

Which provided this article, it is a start to the history of the brand.

I also found the picture of the exact same box and the associated nib on a commercial site:

The picture are in the middle of the page or use the title of your post without the Chile reference for a quick find.

A "Leonardt nib boxes" picture search showed many links.

The D Leonardt & Co still produces nibs, you might want to ask them which kind you have.

I am not affiliated with any of the sites above.

I do hope somebody more knowledgeable will chime in because I am far from a dip pen nib expert.

If I'm not mistaken, hemispherical-tipped pens are related to spoon-nibs: the tip of the pen is pressed into a spoon shape (opening up) so that a large, smooth surface touches the paper. The idea was to produce a broad line and smooth writing in any direction, without the tendency to catch an edge that normal pointed or chisel-tipped pens have.
