Hello From A Danish Viking

Lord Victor

Recommended Posts

Hi there, I am Lord Victor Halgaard. I'm an artist/blacksmith from Denmark, and on my search for good tools for drawing, I inevitably came across fountain pens for inking lines - that and some of them are just pretty!

Other than drawing I write stories/plots, and forge armour for reenactment fighting. And I'm a major audiophile which goes along with all of it :)

Welcome !

In college, we cooperated in the project to "roll" 12,000 metal rings, with which our

classmate fashioned a coat of maile. Forty years since, it still hangs in his home

closet, to the astonishment of visiting guest.

Which fountain pens do you use ?

Cool, and what a welcome, nice to meet you all - I'm not used to people on forums caring about new members at all ^^

Speaking of old viking gear I also inherited a 30 year old dane-axe which I used in battle for some years before I passed it on to another... Those things can take a beating! Though it did need a new handle at one point which was a pain to make - or even find a good tree to make from.

As for the pens I use, I have a mint silver (wanted a black one :() Rotring 600/newton (the later shorter model) with a F nib, and a set of rotring ArtPens (EF and a broad calligraphy nib) that I've been using for a while.

Got the Rotring newton along with an original long Rotring 600 rollerball/felt tip pen that I also use for inking :)

I just got a Graf von Faber Castell Classic Platinum M and a Graf von Faber Castell Elemento F yesterday which was what spurred me to go on the hunt for some better ink for drawing since the stuff in my cartridges doesn't seem to flow very well... in some of my pens at least.

The Graf Von Fabers were quite the investment so we'll see if they get to stay - since for me practicality comes first, however much I love the design of these pens ;)

Other than that I actually mostly use mechanical pencils for drawing before inking, there I use Rotring 600 0,3 2b, Rotring 800 0,5 2b and a Graf von Faber castell Classic Ebony 0,7 2b and Caran d'Ache Ecridor 0,7 HB for sketching.

Sometimes a Caran d'Ache Fixpencil with 6b lead for large croquis sketches etc.

But that is for another time and another place - this is for fountain pens after all

So yes... I'm currently on the hunt for some nice ink, which this seemed like the right place to look for :D

Don't know wether Graf Von Faber Castells own ink is good for its price or if there are far better options out there for inking drawings and practicing calligraphy...

p.s. excuse the silly photo, but it was all I had in the correct size ^^

Hallo, Victor! Welcome to the FPN! I traveled through Copenhagen on my way to the Baltics one year. They stamped my passport at one end of the airport, and the stamped it again as I left the other end of the airport. I hope to have an actual visit there someday!
