A4 Hardback Notebook With Fp Friendly Unlined Paper?

Please help.

All the fp friendly notebooks seem to be lined, or dotted, I'm looking for something with plain paper at least 90gsm (preferably heavier).

 

I intend to use it as a handwriting 'project' by creating an 'illuminated' book, using marker pens, fine line markers, metallic acrylic paint and a flex pen (I find these easier to use than italic pens), so the paper needs to stand up to this.

 

Art sketch books tend to have rough paper in them which isn't nice to write on.

 

Availability in the UK is a must (online is fine), a pretty cover would be nice but isn't essential.

Try checking out Leuchtturm 1917, Goulet carries them. I believe the Master size is A4 and the 100 gsm paper is very, very good. It is not white, the paper is ivory. They are pretty expensive as the sizes go up but I have been pleased with mine from this manufacturer (I have 2). I have never attempted to use acrylic paint on mine, you might think of going higher than 100 gsm with that kind of work. Good luck.

Definitely Stillman & Birn. Try the Epsilon series - natural white, smooth finish, 150gsm, great with fountain pens.

DONT try the Master size Leuchtturm. I have one, couldnt write more than 4 pages worth of...anything in it because of how badly it bleeds. even on a Japanese fine it feathers and bleeds

Thanks lots for all the suggestions. Some look rather more expensive than I expected, but I can save up while gathering together the skills for this project - I'm currently doing lots of zentangling for the margin line work and I've been using acrylic paint for years, but mostly to paint cats, so I'm now practising designs more suited to illuminated patterns. At the same time, I'm practising handwriting and deciding on the ink (the favourite is Noodler's X Feather). :)

Why not try Paperblanks notebooks (available from Amazon as well as several other retailers in the UK)?

 

I have developed quite a collection of Paperblanks notebooks, they are beautiful and the paper is FPN friendly.

 

The only difficulty is deciding which one(s) to buy....... :lol:

SignalboxCat, are they the notebooks with the gorgeous covers which I saw a couple of weeks ago on their own revolving stand at WH Smiths? If so, you're right, the problem would be...which one..? I didn't know that the paper in them was fp friendly, which was why I didn't buy one.

They will be, WH Smith do sell them, Amazon also has a good selection. I don't have any problems with bleed or feathering, even with my less well behaved inks (such as Baystate Blue!)

 

I tend to use the "midi" size mostly, but the "ultra" size (next one up) is also useful. The "grande" size is A4.

 

The covers are stunning, textural as well as beautiful, and they are well made. Mostly they are lined, but do check as some are available unlined.

 

The only drawback is that they can get rather addictive........

I have the same experience. I send a complain to Leuchtturm and they send me a new one which also bleeds. I talking about the fountain pen friendly with 100gm2. The notebook is quite nice with numbered pages, folder, two ribbons, index pages, labels, etc. they just need to use a decent paper. In my dreams I see a Rhodia webnotebook with the added Leuchtturm features.

      Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

      It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

      Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

      Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

      @asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
