Parker Sonnet Firedance- (Indian Members)

Hi,

Sorry for the late reply

I received the pen and well , my happiness was very short lived.

The nib was very scratchy and had to return the pen

Seems that the qc at parker has gone down. My 2 other sonnets have very smooth nibs.

Had to return the pen and with lot of effort had to convince luxor to refund my money.

Another thing about the parker was that it had no marking as to the country of origin ( probably being made in India as stamped in the warranty booklet )

sorry to hear that. I was surprised they even had any 18k sonnets left, they were blowing these out at 50% off a few years back. Incidentally I am using my Firedance today, bought in 2002 or so...

They are probably being made in Rishikesh or someplace .

Buying Sonnets here we don't have worries as to their origin. Only French made are available here thanks to the otherwise disantageous trade policies of both Pakistan and India not allowing import of goods from the other country except for a very very limited number of items - to be agreed upon through special bilateral agreements/arrangements. And those items, almost always, do not include pens and stationery.

In fact I haven't had the chance until now to have ever seen a India made Parker (or any othet India made pens for that matter) except in pictures on the internet.

Sonnets are made outside India only.. It was just that luxor India has inventory available with them...

Modern parkers don't seem to excite me..

If inventory available with them why these didn't have the country of origin stamped on them? Read the whole thread so you understand the issue in proper perspective.

The box in which I purchased the pen wrote that it was made in India. and also I confirmed with luxor India and they also could not confirm the origin. I was actually shocked at the nib of the sonnet as the earlier 2 sonnets were such smooth writers.

I haven't, as yet, seen any legit Sonnet without FRANCE stamped on the cap. I think the same is the case with FRONTIERS, VECTORS and other Luxor distributed Parker pens in India. These, too, do not have the country of origin stamped on them. Am I correct?

Same is the case with Sheaffer and Cross pens produced in China.

PARKER, SHEAFFER and CROSS have long gone now. Except, of course, for some models produced in Europe.

Well the first sonnet which I purchased was a ciselle and country of origin was also not written on it but the box specifically mentioned imported etc, etc. The 2nd one was black laque one had France written on it and the firedance had nothing written on it

Well, the 'No Country Of Origin' Parker Sonnet pens are found only in India, perhaps. Likely because these were produced under licence in India itself.

The older Sonnets have reportedly suffered from some fundamental issues - poorly adjusted nibs and poor ink flow, which adds to the feeling of scratchiness. I had the same pen (bought from a Shopper's Stop in Mumbai almost 10 years ago) with the monotone 18K gold nib and it barely wrote. The ink flow was terrible. It went back for adjustment to Luxor after consulting a bunch of folks on FPN including Hari but I don't think they did much to it. I ended up selling that pen.

Quite recently I bought a spare old style 18K nib for my Sonnet and that one had the same issues. The nib is quite soft to cause the tine to get easily misaligned if not used carefully and the feed, I guess, may have some design flaws that aid the poor flow.

The Firedance, I'm pretty sure, is made in France. The lower end of the range (Frontier, Classic, Jotter, Vector, etc.) is probably how far Luxor spans in making them in India.

Maybe you are correct but anyhow the " cat" has already left the building, meaning the pen has long been gone

Made in France with low quality for Indian Market to be distributed by luxor and hence no mention of origin?

That is the only possibility that comes to mind if in case these are not made in India itself.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
