removing Sonnet nib

I'd like to remove the nib from my Sonnet so I can soak it. Now... how do I do that?

I've gotten it down to this point, and now I'm unsure of how to proceed without damaging anything. Or, as would be the answer that makes my post stupid, do I soak this whole piece?

The pictures aren't the greatest, sorry.

What you have there is the nib assembly, which includes the collector and feed. Personally, I don't think you need go any further - just soak the whole unit. There may be some minute traces of ink under the nib, but in my opinion removing it is simply not worth the trouble in a relatively new pen.

The way I clean my Sonnet is as follows.

Flush the nib and section intact, rinse through the converter. Remove the nib assembly from the section and then dump the whole lot in the US cleaning bath for a 90 sec zap. Remove from the bath, rinse again and then leave to dry.

If you don't have an US Cleaner, then an overnight soak should do the trick, which is what I did before I got it.

I use ultrasonic bathtub too, with distilled water. It is incredible to see ink floating also after a wash under the water flow, when you were convinced it was clean.

I was hoping it might clear up my skipping problem, but nope sad.gif I just have really crappy luck with FPs. It's a new pen, so I wonder if maybe writing it out will help, but from the comments I've seen on the Sonnets, they seem really hit or miss.

You could send it back for a nib swap, or maybe it just needs a bit of flossing and a slight smoothing.

Looks like a GP nib to me and the tines do look quite tight in the photos, so maybe gently opening them up slightly will help.

Just my .02 worth. I have two Sonnets with those nibs and find them both to be highly reliable writers, but they have both been tuned. Not by a nibmeister you understand, this was all home surgery ohmy.gif

Okay Jim... and now for the million dollar newbie question (drumroll please)

How do I do that without messing up my pen? And what else did you do to yours?

I looked through the repairs section, but a lot of what was there seemed much more in depth than opening up the tines a bit

OK, but boy do you have a lot or reading to do. First the health warning sad.gif I tried all this out on cheapos bought from fleabay and I would advise the same.

Start here http://fp.vandebilt.net/html/ngFPNv102.html, written by our own Wim, it is a good 'Starter for 10'

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
