Parker: Penman Sapphire

I would take some off of your hands. :P

Were I still living in the Midlands, we'd meet up a good local for a pint, and I'd give you some carts without hesitation. Alas, I live far across the pond now, and shipping ink is not simple as it was in days of yore...

Sold most of my stash of Penman Sapphire when the going rate for a bottle went from crazy to outrageous! Kept a bottle and a half for my ocassional use.

and your findings on using this ink?

Heh.

Well, in light of today's emphasis on "pen hygiene", it's not quite as fearsome as the reputation suggests. I have other inks that are more difficult to wash/rinse out of pens.

After my post a fortnight or so back about how I hadn't used the ink in a longish time, I slipped a cart into a vintage Parker Cisele 75, and it wrote well, with the remembered rich colour.

So far, the pen didn't explode or anything...

I have used ALL of the Parker Penman Inks....never had a problem with ANY of them...I was really sorry to see them discontinued. The Parker Penman line was my favorite Ink line of all time.

Luckily I still have several bottles/cartridges remaining...in a safe environment.

Thanks!

I don't recall issues with PPS back in the day, and I was not very careful to clean out pens that were to be shelved for a week.... then 2 years rolled by.

According to ink analysis in this blog( sorry only in Japanese), Parker Penman Sapphire ink contains materials similar to dichloroethane that liquefy acryl resin.

IMO it's too famous and overrated. For me the best thing is that I have it on hand for comparison purposes.

I used a teeny weeny sample (which may have evaporated somewhat in the sample bottle) and got my hands on a cartridge which looked to me like it hadn't evaporated at all over the years. Both the sample and cartridge were used with the same results. It's.....ok. I guess it was so hyped in my mind that I expected so much more, but the dry out on the nib and the clogging was a bit irritating. Flow and lubrication were fair, but certainly nothing to ride home about. Interestingly the sample used in a converter didn't stain the converter, which was something I had expected but perhaps that one is a myth. Out the many dopplegangers I still think Monteverde's Horizon Blue is the best match - I couldn't honestly tell the difference on paper - and has none of the behavioural problems. I think the only discernible difference might be that the Monteverde's sheen is a little less deep.

it's somewhere between myth and sour grapes for pen users.

i have a few bottles (somewhere) and hope to find and use them up the next ten or so years...

I am down to my last half bottle. I will not pay the insane prices and I have enough blues that I like so this will likely be it. This will be my 4th bottle I have emptied. A shame that it was discontinued soon after I got into fountain pens. I did not know any better to stock up. I was given a bottle of the sapphire, emerald, and ruby inks. I love all three and still use them routinely. The Emerald Green bottle will hurt the most because unlike the other colors-I have not found a green I like better.

Also-have never had an issue with Penman inks.

I've got a few cartridges left a nice poster gave me. I do needle fill the evaporated cartridge.

It didn't cause me to put on my sunglasses, but was a nice vivid blue. I'm glad there seems to ba finally a match for it with the Monteverdi ink.

Now that I have better paper, someday I'll take it for a spin again.

Will want to pens I have besides my P-75/45, I might stick it in, but that's in some other thread.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
