Lamy 26P

I managed to get this interesting vintage Lamy FP for imho a good deal here. Anyone have any info or comments for about it? I don't mind C/C and I think steel Lamy nibs are very good for <$20 too.

Remember that it takes standard international cartridges, and not the proprietary Lamy ones!

Yes, saw that bit about the carts too.

Anyone know when they changed into proprietary?

Recently I browsed around and I found out they take Pelikan carts/converters? I have a few sample int'l carts from a J.Herbin giveaway a few months ago so I think I'll be alright.

I liked how it reminded me of the Lamy Studio/2k but not the prices too ;)

As long as you like the nib.

If you don't Karl may still have replacement nibs.

I could NOT get used to the OB nib on mine and finally replaced it with a standard F nib.

Pretty curious about the nib as the listing didn't have it named but hopefully it will be a F/M or round one.

Yeah, on some pens (like the Parker 51), there is NO marking on the pen or nib that is visible to tell the seller the nib size. And on others (like the Parker 45), the nib size is on the pen, not visibly on the nib, so if the nib was changed, it could be WRONG. So you end up buying on hope.

gud luk, hope you get the nib you want.

Yep, Pelikan carts are international size. Offhand, I think Lamy is the only European brand that doesn't make or accept International cartridges.

An aside note: looking through the '79 catalog, it's interesting that I couldn't find any explicit reference to the T10 and international cartridges not being compatible, just that the former has a bigger capacity.

But best of luck, and great find! I'm still on the hunt for a piston-filling Profil at a good price. $2! I'm amazed!

10 years on PFN! I feel old, but not as old as my pens.

Thanks and does anyone know what MK nib means from the catalog/PDF?

It was originally a special 'ball' nib, meant to have a wider sweet spot than its contemporary M counterpart, which was ground a bit more flat. From what I gather, it was not discontinued, so much as the flat-ish-ground M was axed, and the MK took over that designation.

In sort, it's the equivalent of their modern mediums.

I think MK stands for Medium Kugel, where Kugel means Ball or Bullet.

Pen arrived but it seems to be skipping a bit despite using the correct C/C oh well will see if I can bring it to the local FP club to have it adjusted to in the future. It does look better in-person at least.

Skipping could be either or both the ink or nib; dry ink in dry pen = skipping or no ink flow.

True, thanks for the advice. It looks like the nib tines are out of alignment and should be adjusted but I lack the tools atm...

I tried but doesn't seem to make such of a difference as it won't write either way.

If the nib isn't scratching, then it might not be the alignment. I have seen cases where the tines are too tight and the pen writes dry. I'm more likely to suspect some clogging in the feed.

Another possibility is that the tip has been worn and the angle you hold the pen is different from the angle the original owner held it.

If you look at the tip under a 10x loupe, the underside of the tip should be close to spherical--especially if it is a ball or kugel tip.

If the tip is lob-sided, then uneven wear might be the culprit for skipping.

It looks like it's too tight as there's barely any ink flow but not sure how to fix it.

You either have to open up the tines a bit or check the feed for clogs. Changing inks without thoroughly cleaning the feed can cause clogs.
