Why is this so expensive? Is it LE or can I buy it later? Grey is my favorite color.

I haven't seen this in European shops yet (that includes British stores). Any idea of the street price in practice? Sargetalon suggested up to 20% below MSRP is usual, but does this model follow the usual pattern?

i just ordered mine from nibs.com w/ an IB - the price was a bit of a shock!

Looking at nibs.com the MSRP for the Stresemann is $800 ($640 with the standard 20% discount). This is more than the than that for current M800's ($715) and the recent tortoise special edition ($750). Compared to the Stresemann, the tortoise is/was a bargain. Expect to see some more price increases on the regular M800's to bridge the gap.

Really late to reply, but this appears to be a part of Pelikan's standard 805 line. It is stated as such on Pelikan's website, and also not listed as a Special Edition. (For Pelikan, a Limited Edition is a run of a fixed number of pens, and their most unique/expensive. A Special Edition is a run of an indefinite number of pens for a fixed period of time, which is less expensive/unique than LE's.)

As for why it's so expensive, I'm not sure. For the past few years, Pelikan has slowly raised their prices and are approaching Montblanc level. Since this 805 is part of the standard range, I would expect a price increase on the rest of the standard line to be incoming.

Pelikan pens is listing it for 350 GBP inc VAT, which is 60 GBP more than the 'normal' range of M800/5s and seeing as they sell M1000s for 380 GBP, it will be interesting to see how they sell. The colour combo is good, the price isn't IMHO.

La Couronne du Comte is offering it for €470.00 ($533 USD), which is the same price as their other standard line Pelikans. Due to the pen's price, it will ship for free worldwide. If you live outside the EU, there will also be a 21% discount, due to not having to pay the VAT taxes ($440 USD).

Edit: The prices are listed are great for us Americans, especially because of VAT. Not sure how they compare to UK/EU prices.

This is really quite disappointing if the pen will be part of the regular lineup as has been suggested. £60 is a big premium for a new colour that is going to become part of the standard range. I think I will hold off to see what happens with the prices in the future. Shame really as I really like the colour combo and have an itch for the M800 size that needs scratching,

Gustav Stresemann was a German politician from the 1920s known for his tailored, understated pin-stripe jackets.

I think this is a great release and very tempting, but I would have preferred a M605 in that look.

I've got this pen pre-ordered at my FLPS (Appointments in Cincinnati), and waiting for it is driving me a little batty. I have to work downtown for the next couple of days, at a client site, and wouldn't it be cool if the pen came in while I was already down there?

Not that I'm not going to go to Appointments and buy some ink and probably something else while I am down there, in any case...

Holy Smokes..... that is a great price. 20% off retail (or more) and then another 21% off for vat. I have been HORRIBLE lately, buying more pens than I ever thought I would... and more expensive ones. But at $440 this suddenly falls into the range of "well, maybe I can do it".

I enjoy MB 146 pens, Sailor, Pilot and Platinum pens as well. I have a strong attraction to dark red and muted green ink, colors I dislike for everything but FP ink. I also enjoy practicing my handwriting and attempting to improve it. I love the feel of quality paper under a gold nib.

I agree. I feel that any pen greater than that size loses portability. And it's not stunning enough to be a trophy pen.

Didn't you use up your pen budget already on the Tortoise? :P

My winter FPH catalog came today, and it says the Stresemann will be "available for a limited time only". I'm assuming this is just a mistake? I haven't seen it listed as special edition anywhere else.

Might be a misunderstanding, everyone seems to be initially confused on whether it was special or standard. I emailed Chartpak who confirmed that it was a standard edition and would be available long-term (unless Chartpak, too, is being misled).

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth

There is still chemistry for processing regular chrome (positive) films like Kodak Ektachrome and Fuji Velvia, but Kodachrome was a completely different and multistep beast.
    • Ceilidh
Ah, but how to get it processed - that is the question. I believe that the last machine able to run K-14 (Kodachrome processing) ceased to operate some 15 or so years ago. Perhaps the film will be worth something as a curiosity in my estate sale when I die. 😺

Take a lot of photos!   If the film has deteriorated or 'gone off' in any way, you can use that as a 'feature' to take 'arty' pictures - whether of landmarks, or people, or whatever.
