Shawndo Sample Mayhem - De Atramentis - Kermesin Red

I checked out this review because the color is listed at the De Atramentis site for Mark Twain. It's nice they put the color name in the description.

I always appreciate your reviews amberleadavis.

Thank you!!! I really liked this ink and though it was a nice sample, I did end up buying a bottle.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

It's funny, when I was picking my five inks for the Massdrop special, I thought of a color quite like this ink, but came across it too late. The Sunshine Yellow took that spot because I picked a color lacking in my ink supply.

I've been locked in on green, brown and purple. When the Goulets have their inksamplepalooza (spelling?) I'll be sure to include this one. As a Missourian, if I can't have the Mark Twain ink, I can try the color without his name and photo.

I don't know that I would have named this ink Mark Twain, but I really like the color and I really like Mark Twain.

Any ink named for a person has been hit and miss. How did Diamine choose to associate colors with composers? With DeA, why is Jane Austcn green and Twain red-violet shade? Maybe it's a way to sell a color.

But whatever their reasons, keep the reviews coming!

Corrected red-violet. Somehow I typed thirds or got an autocorrect mistake.

  • 2 weeks later...

I found DeA Mark Twain and the US Constitution ink and ordered it. The price per bottle was $1-2 more, but shipping was reasonable. When the order arrived, there was a surprise inside. A Jinhao demonstrator in orange that came with a converter.

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth

There is still chemistry for processing regular chrome (positive) films like Kodak Ektachrome and Fuji Velvia, but Kodachrome was a completely different and multistep beast.

Ah, but how to get it processed - that is the question. I believe that the last machine able to run K-14 (Kodachrome processing) ceased to operate some 15 or so years ago. Perhaps the film will be worth something as a curiosity in my estate sale when I die. 😺

Take a lot of photos!   If the film has deteriorated or 'gone off' in any way, you can use that as a 'feature' to take 'arty' pictures - whether of landmarks, or people, or whatever.
