Monteverde Impressa Review

Today I'm planning on doing a review on the Monteverde Impressa. This pen, I believe is a fantastic choice for people looking for a cheap, but good looking fountain pen.

I paid $60 for this pen, and really bought it because I thought it looked nice. At the time, I really didn't set my expectations too high.

Upon bringing this pen home, I realised how beautiful it really was.

The body was a beautiful finish, highlighted by the dark red trim. The nib was a gorgeous black, and as a size 6 nib, really made the pen look five times its price. The pen was heavy, making it feel expensive. I really liked the weight of it, but I realise it is probably too heavy for some people. The pen is also quite large, which was great for me, as I have big hands, but I realise that again, it is not for everyone.

This cap could post, but unfortunately fell off a few times when I was writing. I think that most people would write with the cap off, as the pen does become very weighty at the back end, and is not a short pen unposted anyway.

Now to the nib. I must admit that when I first used the nib, I had some serious issues. The nib (a medium) would frequently skip, and would put out so much ink that it would blur the page. I took this pen back the next day, and was given a replacement pen, this time with a fine nib. This nib was considerably better. It produced a fine, crisp line, and did not skip once. The nib was relatively smooth, but I would not say 'smooth,' just smoother than other pens of the same price, like a Lamy Al-Star.

I really like this nib. It gives a small amount of feedback, which I really like. I find other pens, such as the Parker Sonnet have a nib which is almost too smooth?

This pen also comes with a converter. It is just a standard Piston type, but works well.

Before I bought this pen, I had read a few reviews on it, and had noticed people talking about the finish on the pen coming off after a few weeks, ruining the pen. I have had this pen for a couple of months now, and have not noticed any sort of thing.

Another point I really like about this pen is the pocket clip. The pocket clip on this pen is spring loaded, and can extend to a significantly large extent, which is really nice if you have something thick you would like to pin it on. Unfortunately this can also cause problems, as it does not stay on thinner shirts as well as other pens with fixed pocket clips, and can slide around a lot.

Another thing people may not like is the grip just above the nib. This one is metal, and does cause your finger to slip a lot, especially if you have sweaty hands. To combat this, there is a lip at the end of this section, making the pen usable. I do not find any problem with this, but I thought it would be good to point out.

To sum up, I really like this pen. I realise that it is probably not for everyone, but for me, it is almost perfect.

Like many people I have been looking for my everyday fountain pen for quite a while. I didn't want it to be too expensive, and I wanted it to write very well.

I am starting to wonder. Could this be it? Have I finally found the one?

Nice review. Thank you. I have two of these, the rose gold and the pearl white and blue. Recently I almost bought the one you reviewed but the dealer only had a stainless steel nib - :( -_- !

Sorry, I can't imagine that nice color combination with a silver colored nib. I JUST can't!!!

A grey day is really a silver one that needs Your polish!

I'd considered this pen but opted against it due to the weight and metal section. I still ogle at the looks of it, though. Monteverde pens definitely look sweet with the black nibs. I've only bought mediums from them - was that quite smooth (forgetting any other issue) as my experience has been?

Pretty good-looking indeed. I would probably prefer it in a matte or brushed black finish, but it's still nice as it is :) Thanks for the review.
