Montblanc Bohème Blue

Update: Added water resistance test at the bottom (short answer: not resistant at all).

Since I haven't seen any reviews pop up yet, I thought I would try my hand at doing one myself. This is my first attempt at a review so I apologize for the illegible handwriting and any deficiencies!

As I mention in the written review I wasn't able to get the color exactly right in the scanned image, but it's very close and I feel it's enough to get an accurate idea of the color. I also mentioned that it suffers from some slight feathering, but upon reflection it's not true feathering, rather it's the ink flowing into the texture of the paper. I've included a closeup below the main review.

Hope someone finds it useful! It really is a wonderful color, I love it.

Here's a closeup of the "B" written by the Pelikan to show the ink flowing into the texture of the paper:

You might be wondering at this point "But isn't the Pelikan a piston filler?" The answer is left as an exercise for the reader. ;)

And here's the water resistance test, as you can see it pretty much washed completely away:

How is the ink's water resistance?

Good question! I will test it tomorrow, but drips clean off very easily.

I have updated the original post with the water resistance test. Short answer: not resistant at all!

Nice review. Reminds me of Diamine's China Blue and/or R&K's LE Porcelain Blue-White. As to your "excercise", I just emptied out an 8-pack of carts into a bottle and filled my M215 as such. My phone call to MB's headquarters telling them that I think it is silly to offer any MB inks only in carts -- even if the pen with the same name only uses carts -- they then said that that's the way things are. My problem. That's true IMO but I still bought the stuff and just did it my way. I'd call their strategy "stingy" in this regard.

Thanks for the comparison to China Blue, it reminds me a lot of Mediterranean Blue as well but with more shading.

I ended up purchasing 2 boxes to deal with that "issue" but I can't help feeling a bit cheated, as the cost/mL is somewhat ridiculous.

  • 7 months later...

Love this colour, it really pops off the page and has nice shading. My usual (authorised) MB supplier denied it existed though!

I chose my user name years ago - I have no links to BBS pens (other than owning one!)

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
