Noodler's used to do large bottles, but has stopped.

I'm sure you know about the Pilot 350ml bottles.

This thread suggests another German company, Gutenberg. It has links, but they seem broken. They were also in German, apparently. E-mail to the guy there might still work, and was suggested as the best solution, anyway.

1ml / day is a pretty good run rate for ink if you mainly use it for writing, so about 1000 days to finish it.

I think they were meant for schools and similar were you need to fill many inkwells.

I am no longer very active on FPN but feel free to message me. Or send me a postal letter!

Sheaffer used to make quart bottles of Skrip ink, probably designed for filling inkwells in schools back in the day. Full bottles often come on sale on the 'Bay and the FPN Classifieds, usually selling pretty cheap, like $1.50-2.00 per oz (which would end up being 45-64 dollars for a full quart bottle)

Parker 51 Aerometric (F), Sheaffer Snorkel Clipper (PdAg F), Sheaffer Snorkel Statesman (M), red striated Sheaffer Balance Jr. (XF), Sheaffer Snorkel Statesman desk set (M), Reform 1745 (F), Jinhao x450 (M), Parker Vector (F), Pilot 78g (F), Pilot Metropolitan (M), Esterbrook LJ (9555 F), Sheaffer No-Nonsense calligraphy set (F, M, B Italic), Sheaffer School Pen (M), Sheaffer Touchdown Cadet (M), Sheaffer Fineline (341 F), Baoer 388 (F), Wearever lever-filler (M).

I think I may have a little too much ink for my immediate future going by that rate... I don't write that much - maybe about 0.5mL a day at best and there are no less than six noodler's bottles at work, to say nothing of all the other ink at home.

sounds stupid... But are there anymore companies that make 1 liter bottles of ink... And how fast does a single person empty this elusive large soda sized bottle

I purchased one of the Pelikan 1-litre bottles a while ago. It was a mistake.

Even if I only used a single ink, it would last a very long time. But of course, I always have one or more than one new color to try. I would get bored with a single ink for that long.

The problem is that it's a plastic bottle, so its slightly porous. Over time, the water very slowly evaporates through the plastic, the ink gets a little thicker. I guess if you used up the bottle in a year this wouldn't be a problem, but I would guess I've had my bottle for 5 to 7 years, maybe longer, and the ink has changed. Not to mention that Pelikan black starts out somewhat thicker than some other inks - Quink, for example.

Of course, the problem is fixable - when I pour this ink into a bottle to use it, I add some water. Just guessing, but I probably add 5ml to 50ml of ink, maybe a little more.

It's kind of an interesting thing to own, but unless you write a lot with a single color, I don't think its really practical.

  • 4 years later...

I've read this thread so many times. I've stared at the bottle of Pelikan 4001 Brilliant Black 1000ml for sale on Amazon for maybe two years now. Today it was being offered at $48.74 including shipping and tax, and I finally could not resist buying myself a bottle any longer. I already have 4 60ml bottles of 4001 Brilliant Black, but my son and daughter are getting interested in fountain pens, so I thought maybe this can be the family ink for years to come! ;)

I hope you also let your kinds in on the wonderful world of colors, sheen, shading, etc. that lives beyond Brilliant Black.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
