Pick A Rainbow....

Floreat

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

Just for fun, I'd be interested to hear which are your favourite inks for each of the following colours, as I've done here :) Just write N/A if you don't use a particular colour at all. I think it will be interesting to look back at this thread in a few months' time to see if anything has changed.

Thanks!

Anna :)

UK-based pen fan. I love beautiful ink bottles, sealing wax, scented inks, and sending mail art. Also, thanks to a wonderful custom-ground nib by forum member Bardiir, I'm currently attempting calligraphy after years of not being able to do so due to having an odd pen-grip :D

Colour perception varies from one person to another. For me it's very hard to define blue, indigo and turquoise...

Anyway, here's mine:

Red - Sheaffer Skrip Red (Rouge Hématite seems a bit pinky to me)

Orange - Noodler's Apache Sunset
Yellow - Diamine Yellow
Green - J. Herbin Lierre sauvage
Blue - Sailor Souten
Indigo - N/A
Violet or Purple - R&K Cassia
Brown - R&K Sepia or J. Herbin Lie de thé
Black - N/A
Turquoise - R&K Blu Mare
Pink - No, never...
Grey - Diamine Grey (I don't like it but it's the right grey for me)

Red: Sheaffer Skrip

Orange: I haven't tried it yet, but I am really drawn to J. Herbin Orange Indienne.

Yellow: The closest I get to yellow ink is the discontinued Sheaffer Skrip King's Gold. I have one last cartridge left. Sigh.

Green: a tie between J. Herbin Vert Pre and Private Reserve Avacado; I use both daily.

Blue: I dislike the color blue, so I am fairly indifferent to blue inks. I am currently using a freebie cartridge of Sheaffer blue.

Indigo: n/a

Purple: Levenger Ameythst. I've tried a whole lot of purple inks, and this one continues to be my signature color. It is absolutely perfect.

Brown: n/a

Black: Noodler's Borealis Black. When I finally use up all of my Levenger Raven Black, this will be my standard black.

Turquoise: Haven't tried any really good ones yet

Pink: Am leaning toward J. Herbin Rose Cyclamen

Grey: discontinued Sheaffer Skrip Grey, of which I am also down to my last few drops :(

I have a lot more "favorite" colors, if you start dividing the color categories a bit more finely. For example, my favorite "green with some yellow in it" is Anderson Pens Green Bay. If you said "reddish-brown," then Noodler's Red-black gets the nod. "Bright turquoise" goes to Private Reserve Naples Blue. And on, and on, and on...

My rainbow is always evolving, and the latest palette includes many inks that I’ve only been using for a couple of weeks and for some even days (many Sailor ink additions chosen with Saskia_Madding and Alarickc’s help!)

Red: Montblanc Leonardo da Vinci Red Chalk
Orange: Sailor Apricot (but looking for more of a fall orange)
Yellow: na
Green: Sailor Kingdom Note Tanna Japonensis (my current favorite ink  )
Blue : J. Herbin Eclat de Saphir and Sailor Kobe #14 Maya Lapis (my favorite color group so it’s too hard to pick just one)
Indigo: J. Herbin 1670 Bleu Ocean (I don’t know if this is considered indigo but since wikipedia says color between blue and purple and this dark blue ink has purple undertones I’m going with it :P I just love this ink in a wet pen!)
Violet or Purple: Sailor Shigure

Brown: Sailor Pen & Message Cigar (I don’t use browns much and I don’t know if this color is a true brown but it’s a kind of olive-ish, sepia-ish brown that makes me do a double take :) )
Black: na
Turquoise: Rohrer & Klingner Blu Mare and J. Herbin Bleu Pervenche
Pink: na (I like a couple but don’t use them)
Grey: Montblanc Albert Einstein Grey
