Best Blue-Black Ink?

I need a real good blue-black for an extra fine to fine nib. I am currently looking at:

• De Atramentis Black Edition - Black-Blue
  
• Diamine Registrars Blue-Black
  
• Noodler's 54th Massachusetts
  
• Noodler's Air Corp Blue Black
  
• Private Reserve Ebony Blue
  
• Rohrer & Klingner Leipziger Schwarz

• Rohrer & Klingner Salix
  

I particularly like the Rohrer & Kingner Salix, from what i can see its an iron gall. Would you recommend using it a Faber castell basic (fine nib)? Are there any Blue-Blacks (more leaning towards more blue tone) that you guys could recommend?

Sailor Jentle blue-black is reasonably water-fast (not IG, but it holds on), and gets along well with narrow points.

Salix. It shades beautifully. ESSRI is a go-to which also shades and has a host of great things going for it in terms of eternity

I second the Pilot Blue-Black! Excellent ink.

 

I use R&K Salix and Platinum Blue-Black -- both are (mild) Iron Gall that are actually blue, not blue-black. I suspect that they'd be fine in any modern pen, as long as you practice good and regular pen hygiene.

 

Be forewarned, if you didn't know already, that Noodler's Air Corps Blue-Black is a green-black. (Maybe it could be called a Teal-black, but if so it's teal to the point of green at least in my pens.)

I love iron gall inks. As for choice between the two iron galls, Salix and Diamines, I would prefer the Salix. It has more blue than black and is a bit wetter than the Diamine Registrars ink. Its also less expensive. The Diamine ink is more water resistant than the Salix in that if you soak a piece of paper with writing from both inks, you will find that at first, the Salix will release a small whiff of dye. Regardless of that it is very waterproof. Diamines Registrars ink does not and is totally waterproof.

But i did find that it will feather on my feather testing paper. A good Iron gall does not.

I-G inks are very feather/bleed resistant due to the high surface tension (which is also the reason for their dryness in the pen). It's hard to find dye inks which comes close in that respect (Noodlers has a few. The "good old" Bulletproof Black is one - but it smears even when dry).

Iron galls are too dry for my taste , especially in my F and EF Japanese nibs.

Diamine blue-black or midnight blue

Midnight blue is more of a very DARK blue rather than the traditional blue-black. So if you like blue, get a sample of Diamine Midnight Blue and try it.

Pelikan Blue-Black. Very nice color and shading. It is pretty water resistant. However this is a dry ink. Great for 1.1 stubs, maybe a bit too dry on fine...

I am leaning towards Noodler's Midnight Blue. I looked at Diamine Midnight blue, didn't like it as much.

 

I placed an order for Noodler's Midnight blue, i have time to change my order. So Let's see.

Parker Quink Blue Black is my favorite.

Pelikan Blue-Black. Very nice color and shading. It is pretty water resistant. However this is a dry ink. Great for 1.1 stubs, maybe a bit too dry on fine...

I just bought a bottle of Noodler's Navy ink because I too am a fan of blue black inks and I love it. It shades pretty good and I use it in a fine nib. Its wet enough and it does dry in a reasonable time for me.

In the picture it comes out more blue than black but in real life its more on the black side.

Noodler's Blue-Black is dark and mysterious, but Everflo B--B was in a class by itself. It's no longer available.

I don't do non-permanents so,
Sailor Blue-Black rocks (IG), second is Noodler's Bad Blue Heron,

Inks I've discarded: Noodlers 54 Massachusetts, great ink but too black to my eyes.
Baystate Blue: Stains demonstrators and too flashy indigo color.
Noodler's Air Corp Blue Black : Almost Green
Platinum Blue Black: Great color but too dry.
