Question About Lalex 1938 Pen

Recommended Posts

Hey Guys, i have a Lalex 1938 with a sterling silver cap like in the pictures below. Nice pen, in mint condition. I am struggling to start using it as i am not sure of:

1. which cartridges it takes? Does it take Pelikan (international) ones?

2. which converter should i use? I have read it international converters doesn't fit as the barrel is a bit too short. Monteverde's converter should fit, but i have a difficulty buying it here in Lithuania. Any other ideas which converter would fit, before i start searching for the Monteverde's one?

Thanks in advance for help!

Hey Guys! Just tried to put inside the lalex 1938 a pelikan converter and i am confused! It doesnt fit. I have read numerous articles that Lalex pens use international cartridges, but then why the international converter (Pelikan made) doesnt fit? It looks like everything is ok with the feeder of the pen.

Sincerely,

Dennis

Not all international convertors are built the same. You may have to find one that is smaller in either girth or length to fit in your pen. Or if you are really unlucky, you will not find one that fits at all.

If you would have a look in our list of penreviews, you would see there is one for the Lalex 1938.

That review would give you all the information you need.

For your benefit: the reviewer stated that he was disappointed this pen was cartridge only (small international standard)

Hm, strange, i thought international convertors are international for the reason they are built with the same criteria with the idea of standardization. Am i wrong?

Use short International cartridges.

Ah, cartridges..... after i have switched from cartridges to bottled ink, i prefer converters.

D.ick i have checked the review of the Lalex pen you have mentioned, the problem is that that model is shorter than the one i have.

Guys, whilst trying the Pelikan international converter, i felt i could not even put the converter on the section. i even tried to do it with some force but that havent helped, i only damaged one the inner sides of the Pelikan converter.

Here is the picture of the feed inside the section. I even havent tried if the barrel will fit the standard size converter inside.

What other converters i would need to try? We actually have a limited access to some specific brands here in Lithuania.... we have only Waterman, Parker, Sheaffer, Lamy and Pelikan available. I also have a Diplomat or the Elysee converter, but i am afraid to damage one of these.

Which converter do you think is the best to try in this Lalex.

A big thanks to everybody for your replies.

IIRC the Lalex 1938 is too short for any converter. It is cartridge only.

Jar, i just have tried the waterman converter in lalex 1938 pen (pictures above) and..... [drums] ....... it fits perfectly inside. it holds nicely on the section and fits perfectly inside the barrel.

I have tried writing with it using the pelikan blue ink, the pen has a steel M nib, a bit flexible, and wet. I liked it a lot actually.

Sincerely,

Dennis

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
