Choosing Next Ink For A Pen

Do you ever forget which ink you plan to use _NEXT_ in specific pens after they've been written dry?

The idea will pop up in my mind of trying out INK A in PEN W after I've used up all the ink. Days/weeks will pass before I'm ready to clean the pen and refill. By then, I've forgotten what my original plan was and I'll end up refilling it with INK B instead. :(

This has happened to me several times. I think I need to start a separate notebook listing what my future plans are with specific pens and inks. I've got tons of unopened bottles of ink to try out...

Right now I'm trying to remember to refill my 1.5 stub with Rouge Hematite (still unopened and shrink wrapped, I wonder which version I have). It's amazing how fast ink flows out with a 1.5 stub, so it will be soon. Just need to hold this thought for another day or two ....

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

I just choose an ink on the spur of the moment, and perhaps if I have any specific needs right then.

I don't plan inks ahead of time. I don't even generally use certain colors in specific pens, though usually use greens in my M1000 and browns in my M800.

Sometimes needs dictate ink selection. Filled my Pilot VP (F) with MB-MB (IG formula) to fill out tiny boxed forms on crappy paper for example.

Usually boils down to looking at the shelf and asking what hasn't been used lately. Or, sometimes if I'm feeling lazy, just grab the same ink and go with it.

If I'm dying to use a specific ink in a specific pen, it will be on my mind 24/7 until I finally run out or give up and dump it. This happened on the weekend... I had Alt-Goldgrün in my M205 but wanted to use R&K Sepia in it instead. I was finally sick of waiting and just transferred AGG to the Nib Creaper that already had some in it anyhow, filled up with Sepia, and was one happy camper.

Right now, I'm waiting to use up the Platinum cartridge that came with my 3776 so I can use Lexington Grey in it. Another hard wait!

Otherwise, I usually just refill pens with the same ink or try whatever sample I haven't used yet.
