For a long time it has been a Waterman 52 with the proverbial wet noodle nib. I think the obsession is fading, though, without ever having found one. I have a number of other vintage pens with quite good flex, but I'm not likely to put in the work to make the most out of it. No real interest in learning Spencerian script, say. So by now, I might pass up a merely good deal on a 52, although I'd probably still jump on a fantastic deal.

And there is the legendary British Esterbrook nib in actual 14k gold (not one of the plated ones). I'd love to get hold of one of those for my current Esterbrooks, although I don't really think that it would provide a revelatory writing experience. And perhaps if I saw what somebody wanted to be paid for one, I would change my mind.

For pens I already have, I obsess over my vintage Parkers. Mostly because I put so much work and learning into them, and I've always liked how they look, and now love how they write.

Obsessing to possess, a Parker 51 is in my sights. And I generally obsess over anything that is made of gorgeous, marbled celluloid. It just glows. And I am beckoned.

Yes, for me it's the Nakayas--even though I have a few (and a Blue Dragon is among them) I still obsess over others. Amazing and beautiful pens!!!

Pelikan M800. I've wanted this pen ever since I started my fountain pen journey and it was my first pen I saved up for. I got it cut to a stub by John Mottishaw and am quite pleased with the line variation it provides, and how the Tortoiseshell edition looks. Beautiful!

Can't say obsessive, but it would be a Parker 180 (and its follow-on the Classic)

One of my favorite pens, and one that I used in college.

2nd is the original Cross Century from about 1980.

Followed by the Esterbrook J series. The neat thing is that the nibs are interchangeable. So if you want a XF,F,M,B,relief, flex or other nib they made, you just unscrew the nib in the pen and screw in the new nib. And sizes; want a fatter pen use the J, want a slim pen use the LJ, want a short pen use the SJ. And if you are like me, and like desk pens, you can screw in the same nibs into their lever and dipless desk pens. This is really a nice system of pens.

Then it is finding and collecting samples of the various pens that I've used in the past as a student.

- Sheaffer School pen

- Parker 45

- Some of the more unusual ball pens that I used.

David Oscarson Valhalla.

Unless I win the lottery, I could never afford one, but when you have Mjölnir tattooed on your arm, it calls to you in a mysterious way.

Obsessing is fine, lusting is just allowable, but please, no drooling.

😀

Edit: sorry for the double post.

I'm currently obsessing over the idea of owning a Sheaffer Snorkel. I purchased a Snorkel Sentinel today. After restoration, I'm hoping it's all that I've dreamed of.

The pen that I own and am in love with is my Parker 61. Always smooth, always beautiful, always in use.

Owner of many fine Parker fountain pens... and one Lamy.

I obsess over every pen, until I get it. I couldn't get the Vanishing Point out of my head, for a while. Then one weekend it became, "I wonder what a SAILOR nib is like???"

I obsessed over the Pilot VP in Raden Galaxy. I got that one, and haven't obsessed over anything since.

There are a couple pens I really like the look of and may save up for, but my desire for that VP truly was obsession. It didn't disappoint, either. :)

I get excited each time I see a pen made of chinese lacquer.

And if I find a vintage one from Dunhill or Dupont for a reasonable price, I just go nuts.

Cant' help myself...

Make sure your pacemaker is in good shape BEFORE looking at Nakaya and Danitrio fountain pens, or some of the very high end Pelikan limited editions.

I obsessed over a VP for literally (in this case used correctly) years. I also had short term obsession with an Esterbrook. Now that both are in my collection, I am in the market for a new obsession (maybe a Pelikan).

I will never be able to afford this beauty but I drool (sorry, Rose Nibs) every time I see pictures. Pure unobtanium but the naturalist in me behaves like a moth near a flame around this pen.

Yeah I saw that picture right when I first got into pens and was like one day. Unless the lottery or I become a NYT Bestseller I highly doubt it; could no imagine paying 1K+ for a pen. couple hundred yes.. but 1K.. too young for that as of now.
