Blue Rubberized Lamy Studio

I would like to buy a Studio (blue or terracotta), but I am afraid to do that now because of these stories. The Studio costs a bit to much for that....

Modern studio with steel section like the imperial blue, the terracotta or the olive green don't have this problem. They may have other problems, like the slippery section, but they won't get sticky.

Btw, terracotta is beautiful.

There's no going back on restoring that rubberized finish once it starts to deteriorate, but as someone who's lived through the NARS blush and eyeshadow packaging doing the exact same thing - and let me tell you how fun that is, when your sticky plastic container is holding a powdered product - you can take some rubbing alcohol / ethanol and really just rub all that sticky plastic off. The finish won't be that soft plastic anymore, but you can salvage it to still make it usable and non-sticky if you work hard enough at it.

But yeah, I stay away from purchasing ANYTHING with that crappy soft touch plastic finish these days, be it pens or anything else.

And the finishes are delicate, my black and imperial blue have tiny dings. Again, not the same problem as the rubberized versions.

I now have every single version of the Studio including two in the original Blue finish. One of them has clearly deteriorated as described in this thread, while the other remains in perfect condition.

I agree that all signs point to this having been an issue with the original release of the pen (specifically the matte black and original blue), and the current models do not have this problem (including recently-produced matte black pens).

The imperial blue and terracotta orange are safe bets, IMO.

Good to know, thank you :)

And the black section of the brushed steel version, in chance I would like that better than the steel section of the imperial blue? Would that one pose problems?

I would expect no problems from the black plastic section. It feels nice, and I've detected no sign of deterioration. In particular, it feels to me like a solid plastic part, as opposed to a painted finish.

Back to the OP:

Not sure what causes the stickiness, other than just degradation of the material, however, I have experienced the same on a rubberised torch/flashlight. Had success using a good helping of talcum/baby powder rubbed into the material. Did this a couple of times and it seemed to work.

Hope this helps.

I joined the Studio family yesterday by buying the Imperial Blue and Terracotta. I bought them in a store because I wanted to test the section first. But no problems with the steel section. I love them and the matte black and the brushed steel are quite probably going to bought next month.
