Hi guys I was wondering which one is better for ink dry times? Does the ink dry faster on 80g regular paper or on the 90g ivory premium paper? (in their notpeads series)

Is there a particular ink you want tested? I have both papers and lots of different inks and can do a test for you.

HamFist:

Sorry, I got side-tracked yesterday (story of my life) and didn't get your sample done. Just wanted to let you know I haven't forgotten and hope to get it done this evening.

I find ink dries faster on the standard Rhodia than on the 90g Premium R pads. The Premium R pads feel really similar to Clairefontaine paper to me, super slick and smooth. At least for me it feels like ink soaks more readily into the 80g paper helping with the dry times. I use to think Rhodia pads were so smooth but then switched off to Clairefontaine for a bit. Now going back to Rhodia, the regular stuff feels like it has more texture and wicks ink from the nib easier.

I will add Clairfontaine Triomphe to the test.

I can tell you with certainty that the Rhodia 80g paper used in the "reverse book" (my favorite wirebound notebook) allows ink to drty much faster than on the 90g paper used for the Rhodia Circa sheets (a Levenger exclusive).

The shading is much better on the 90g Rhodia Circa sheets compared to the notebooks.

IIRC the dry time and shading on the Rhodia Circa And the Webbie I have are similar.

I hope this helps.

After checking, I found that I have Waterman Tender Purple and Mysterious Blue. I have Iroshizuku Yu-Yake, Chilu-rin, Take-sumo, Ku-jaku, Kon-peki, Yama-budo. Since I have only one of the inks you asked for, please let me know which other(a) you would like me to use.

I have three or four of the rhodia R pads that I still haven't unwrapped. I've stopped using them because even though the paper is superb - and feels so silky to the touch - the colour knocks out the beauty of the blues - especially Asa Gao which is my favourite. I'm now using the 80gsm all-white pads and enjoying my inks that much more.

Wouldn't it be great if Nakaya used TWSBI piston fillers instead of Platinum cartridge converters?

Mysterious Blue, yes, Asa-gao, I don't have. Pick another Iroshi from my list, if you want, or I can just use the Waterman. I'm also getting one of the new Rhodia Ice pads, so I can test that one, too!

Try Black and Red a lot cheaper and is 90gsm I gave up on Rhodia when I realized how good Oxford Optik paper was

The man himself Mr Brown thinks it's good.

I used red n black I like the paper. Due to the fact that my college thinks that American college students have bodies the size of a starving child I prefer top bound staple or spiral notepads.

We have to sit in these aweful desk chair contraptions that provide no space for writing.

Ok ^ but I would be a little careful how you phrase things as people can take offense easily (I don't but just be a little more careful).

Okay, Hamfist, I finally got this done for you. Sorry it took so long, I am easily side-tracked. I used Waterman Mysterious Blue and Iroshizuku Take-sumi.

The papers are HP Laserjet premium 32lb, Clairefontaine Triomphe, Rhodia cream 90gm, Rhodia Bloc 80gm and Rhodia "Ice" Bloc 80gm.

The Iroshi ink was a faster drying ink than the Waterman.

Hope this helps!

Edited to add: I used a Waterman 3V with a super flex #2 nib going full flexed for a super wet line. You can really see how the HP paper absorbs and the difference between the two Rhodia bloc papers are. The "Ice" is a special edition that just came out that I got from Goulet Pen Co.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
