Which One Will Be Your Next Fountain Pen ?

Thier.

Recommended Posts

I'd say I have average hands. And also being new to FP I change inKS a lot. I only have experience with m and b nibs though

You can get the E95s in fine and medium nibs, but broad is not available. A medium probably would suit you.

Admittedly look nice! I like the overall look of the pen.

Sorry I was bit away from this topic. For a late answer to your question, yes, I got my Princesse Grace and did a review about it.

That pen looks stunning. It's the only premier I actually would consider I just love the art deco appeal of it. Thier by any chance would you review it?

I've been eyeing the Pilot E95s...might buy the older version first though. Anyone have any experience with ether?

I really like Pilot Pocket pens. I have several M90s and quite a few of the older ones. I haven't bought the latest versions, but they are on m shopping list. They are well-made pens. When posted, they approach the the length of a full-size pen. I have not trouble writing with them. The only drawback is that the only use the Con-20 squeeze converter or a cartridge.

When I go to a pen show, I always have one in my pocket. Many fountain pen aficionados have no experience with these little wonders.

"I already own more ink than a rational person can use in a lifetime." —Waski_the_Squirrel

I'm still trying to figure out how to list all my pens down here.

I have the older, NOS steel nib version, which goes for $24 on eBay and is sold by SpeerBob (no affiliation). There is also a gold nib version that is actually a somewhat different pen (meaning more design changes than just the nib) and goes for about $90 on eBay from a seller in Japan.

I love my vintage Elite --a steal for $24! I have huge hands, but it's a great fit when posted. It's an elegant little pen, and I am using it as an EDC.

It's an EF but writes on the wet side, so I have found I need to use a drier ink. With Noodlers and Quink black inks it makes medium lines, and with Waterman's Blue-Black (Mysterious Blue, in the new bottles) it becomes a fine. I want to get some Pelikan 4001 black or Namiki/ Pilot black samples and see if I can get a finer line yet.

I love it so much, I am thinking of getting a second one... Like I say, for $24 it is a steal.

It would be a list of what I can afford and what I can't afford.

can afford and on my list

  • TWSBI 580
  • Parker 51 Flighter
  • Still looking for a Japanese pen at about the $100 mark.
  • Vintage Parker or Sheaffer desk pen.

can't afford/won't spend that much $$$

  • Pelikan M400, both blue and red stripe models
  • MB slimline
  • Parker T1
  • probably a LOT more, but I don't even look at or think about those, as they are "out of reach."

No, the nibs on the Pilot E95s are not interchangeable. They are inset, like some of the less expensive Montblancs from the '80s.

I regularly have a look at some out of reach pens ...... Just dreaming ..... And sometimes, I cross one or another of those pens at a more than correct price ......

I'm almost positive (never 100% until it's done) it will be either:

Pelikan Souveran M805 Blue/Black

or

Pelikan Souveran M805 Anthracite Stresemann

Read all the threads about the cracks. You might be perfectly content.

Franklin-Christoph, Italix, and Pilot pens are the best!
Iroshizuku, Diamine, and Waterman inks are my favorites!

Apica, Rhodia, and Clairefontaine make great paper!

I'm very happy with my Mini and TWSBI's customer service. When you look at the threads regarding cracking be sure to note the dates of the posts and the model being discussed. I believe they may have finally solved the cracking problem. I'm ready to purchase another TWISBI as soon as they're back in stock at my preferred dealer(s).

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth

There is still chemistry for processing regular chrome (positive) films like Kodak Ektachrome and Fuji Velvia, but Kodachrome was a completely different and multistep beast.
    • Ceilidh
Ah, but how to get it processed - that is the question. I believe that the last machine able to run K-14 (Kodachrome processing) ceased to operate some 15 or so years ago. Perhaps the film will be worth something as a curiosity in my estate sale when I die. 😺

Take a lot of photos!   If the film has deteriorated or 'gone off' in any way, you can use that as a 'feature' to take 'arty' pictures - whether of landmarks, or people, or whatever.
