As the title, am looking for recommendations for silver fountain pens.

 

Fancied the Sterling SIlver Sheaffer Imperial, and Parker 75, so something along those lines

 

Wouldn't be a fan of something with a plain , no design body. ie Cross designs

 

I await amazing opinions :lticaptd:

Do you mean sterling silver/925 silver or just silver coloured (like stainless steel)? An idea of budget would also be useful.

 

Personally I like the Godron or pinstripe patten so the Cross Townsend (excellent value for money) or a Montblanc (I have the 144) would be my top picks.

 

Another rather more fancy option is either the Yard o Led or Sheaffer Legacy. A vintage Sheaffer Targa or a Montegrappa may also appeal....

I was going to recommend the Yard-o-Led pens, but da vinci has beaten me to the punch. My personal preference is the Viceroy Victorian (it's a grail pen that I hope to someday be able to afford), but if that's too "girly" for you, there are other designs/finishes, such as Barleycorn.

I have a Pilot Namiki Sterling Silver Dragon which I like a lot. Great presence and really good value for money IMHO.

I've got a Yard-O-Led Viceroy Grand in Barley with a F nib (the Yard-O-Led nibs run a little on the broad side). It's an excellent pen, and I'm very happy with it.

 

The Victorian pattern is quite a bit more money and just wasn't for me, though I can see the attraction of all that hand-tooled decoration.

I actually fancy the Yard O Led Grand Retro...but yes , the others are a bit too "girly'' for me..

Jar...you must be the leading fpn owner in the entire forum...will peruse through the reviews this weekend !

 

Take a look at Onoto's range of luxury pens. Some of them are made in solid silver and others have attractive filigree overlays on a black body. Funds are the only reason I haven't bought one of the latter yet.

Ah yes Onoto...budget is just impossible. There's one of a captain, 1500usd, not prepared for that jump yet ;/

 

I have a Pilot Namiki Sterling Silver Dragon which I like a lot. Great presence and really good value for money IMHO.

I was looking at that for awhile, only reason I didnt get it was the nib...its the only ugly part of the pen, but design otherwise is a winner.

 

That Montblanc Solitaire....definitely a top contender

I personnaly love the YOL grand Viceroy Barley and also own Parker 75 and Sheaffer Imperial Silver Touchdown. I recently bought a sterling silver Signum for my wife ....

My version of the guide for the Pilot Varsity Nib transplantation to the Platinum Preppy

DIY Retractable Fountain Pen (Couldn't get it to work, now refilling Schmidt 888 M refills with FP inks in a Pilot G2 Limited, the ceramic roller tip is as smooth as a Firm FP steel nib, Poor Man's VP I guess)

I've actually held and used this one at the Montblanc boutiques, but they do go for a fair price...much more than the older Solitaires

 

I'm surprised no one suggested the Platinum 3776 Pin Stripe Silver (was eyeing for a real long time)

It does look very similar to the one I ended up with

      Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

      It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

      Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

      Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

      @asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
