Obtaining Empty Ink Bottles In The Netherlands

Maybe this is useful for someone else.

It seems to be very hard to find stores that sell small single bottles and jars in the Netherlands. Many are either too high, which makes the neck too small for the nib, or too wide and flat to submerge a nib. *IF* you can find a usable bottle/jar, many companies require you to order 100+ or more.

I did find this, however.

It's a Dutch company based in Germany, so the shipment costs are quite high at €9,90, but the bottle looks exactly like the 30ml Pelikan one, and they do ship single bottles. Obviously, shipment costs doesn't make that worthwhile, but when ordering 10 bottles or so, €1.80 per bottle is not too bad. (Strangely enough, they put it down as a 'jelly bottle'... of 30ml... so you won't ever find it :P)

Some inks do come in very large or not-so-handy bottles, so it could be useful to have a bunch of these on hand if you haven't already emptied a number of bottles.

Expensive.

Cheaper option is to buy a Pelikan 4001 inkbottle and throw out the ink. This is the same bottle. Or a Cross bottle. also the same. Or the old Conway Stewart inks. Same.

Buying a bottle of Pelikan ink just for the bottle is not cheaper if you need three or more bottles. Also, just chucking the ink is against my sensibilities. I'm still Dutch, not an Ancient Barbarian.

I can't understand why you'd need to buy empty bottles. Why do you need them?

To fill from larger bottles of ink, to make filling a pen easier.

I'm pretty sure that's what OP is saying here.

What do you think of the Gerber bottles? and in the pharmacies you always see tiny bottles in diferent shapes ideals for ink.

I have some ESSRI ink on order, and it comes in a very large and tall 110ml bottle. It was said that it contaminates more easily than 'normal' ink, so splitting it up in four bottles spoils only 25% and not all of it. I might also try Diamine Registrar or Noodlers, that come in 100 and 133ml tall bottles. Many sample vials are also too tall and narrow for my liking.

Goulet pens sells empty ink bottles: http://www.gouletpens.com/SearchResults.asp?Search=empty+bottles&Submit=

Not sure what the shipping would add up to..

At least $15, without VAT and import duties and such; and three weeks delivery time. If I go that route, I can just as well get some bottles in China through eBay... for $0.1 and free shipping :P (Sometimes I wonder how they still make money.)

I've got a number of old, empty spice bottles with either their original plastic cap, or, if need be, a giant (decorative) marble that fits in the opening and closes it off. This in addition to all the old Waterman and Quink bottles that I've emptied through the years and never threw away - they are perfect for new mixtures of my own making. And there are one of two glass jars that used to hold marmite that are also a very nice size... all of which, because bought full, once empty are essentially free. And make me feel good about packaging - you know, reduce, reuse, recycle...

Hm. Glass bottles are een somewhat expensive when ordered through eBay; $10 for 5, including shipping, directly from China. Plastic 30ml vials are much cheaper; like $7 for 10 including shipping.

How good would plastic PET bottles be to store ESSRI or other inks in?

The new Visconti mushroom bottles are plastic, and they already had larger size plastic bottles. I am not aware of other brands with plastic bottles, but there is no reason the ink would not keep well, as long as they lock airtight.

I keep empty jars used for dry spices. They look much like Noodler's bottles or the round version of it.

One might want to check the cosmetic aisle of department stores or the travel area of beauty stores.

The seller or the postal system? :)

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
