Hello Everyone:

I can't seem to find one online (fine nib - not the amber version). Why?

Thank you all

I recently bought one from pisuke2005 on ebay - very satisfied, although they do carry a bit of a premium price.

Thank you for that - I just bought one. I was searching "clear" and wasn't finding what I wanted - I see searching "transparent" makes the difference.

Thanks again!!!!

there is no true clear version of the 823, they come out as smoke brown or smoke black both are "clear" but not the same "clear" as Vac 700 clear

as my reference

This one looks clear to me. I just don't think they are being offered by Pilot currently.

Was the clear an LE in Japan, or just in international markets?

Bigeddie - was your demonstrator from pisuke2005 "transparent?"

I hope so - I just bought one on Sat. - the picture on ebay looks very clear or transparent. I have an amber 823 that I use as a daily writer. I could use another amber one I guess, but I am looking for one that I clear or transparent.

I knew something was up when I couldn't easily find the transparent 823 displayed readily on the net.

Hi,

Try looking for tokyopenshopquill on the internet.

They are based in Tokyo and do some interesting nibs with the pens.

Potentially a bit pricey but.....

Thanks lawrenceg

I did buy one right after I read the post from bigeddie - it was listed by pisuke2005 on ebay as follows:

Manufacture : Pilot

Model : Pilot Custom 823

Item No : FKK-3MR-NC-F (Transparent)

Material : Transparent Resin

Nib material : 14kt

Nib : Fine (F) nib

You still out there bigeddie? Just wondering if the pen you ordered is in fact "transparent" or "clear" (if you ordered the clear) as opposed to amber or smoke.

Thanks everyone for posting

  • 2 years later...

This is an old thread but I recently started looking into the 823 and was wondering where to find it for a good price. Suggestions are welcomed.

I just bought a clear / transparent medium from pisuke on eBay.

He confirmed shipping yesterday.

I got a very good price.

It's true that the clear / demo is no longer offered on Pilot's website.

I sure do miss Pam Braun. Did business with her for years. After the first couple of purchases, I never asked the price. I'd just send her an email telling her what I wanted.

She'd send the pen.

I'd send her blank checks...... for my purchases.

Best regards,

George

PS. What a delightful way to do business..... yes, I bought an 823 from Pam.

I've been sitting on my hands. Funds are there but...

Compare the 823 and the 743. Basically the same pen. 823 has a different filling system and a couple of colours, 743 has ALL the nibs! When you consider that the 742 and 823 take the same nib units it does kind of beg the question of why Pilot doesn't offer the 823 with more choice. It's almost as if they don't want people to like the 823.

As I've pointed out before, Pilot seems to have a policy to not combine interesting nibs with interesting pen bodies, at least in the Custom series. Other examples are that they offer quite a few interesting number 5 nibs, as long as you don't want the only non-C/C pen (the 92) or a colour other than black (some of the 91s), and the only pen that is available with size 15 nib in interesting variants is the only one that is a plastic pen with a C/C filling system.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
