Montblanc Pen Body Crack

Recommended Posts

I have a Montblanc Agatha that has long hairline cracks at the end of the pen body just below the piston. The cracks are axial and about 1 to 2 cm long. It's nearly invisible but if you fill the pen with ink. It will gradually leak from the end of the ink chamber.

Does any one know how to fix this?

This is the guy you want to talk to. Sean from "Write on Time Vintage Pens Watches Restoration and Service". Fast turn around time, too. Check out one of the *crushed* pens he made look new again.fpn_1399889162__1891513_631047003599772_

Send it back to Montblanc. They are the only people who have the parts that need replacing, and they will be able to do the job

Indeed. I sent my 149 to MB service. It had hairline cracks and they're replacing the whole barrel for a very reasonable price.

He won't touch a MontBlanc though.

I have a feeling Sean's simple repair will be cheaper than MB and faster as well. Hairline cracks are simple for someone of his skill level.

D'oh! ok.

LoL yea, I asked him bout that, before I did any kind of referral regarding some MB questions like this one. It's a little out of his comfort zone.

Though I'm wondering how much or where a customer would send a MontBlanc if they're living in China.

The Montblanc here don't accept repairs unless you got the proof of purchase in China or your pen is purchased abroad and have a proper import paper.

So for my Agatha it's impossible to repair via dealer and I don't think MB accept repair directly sent from individuals.

The only place where it can be repaired is Montblanc HQ Hamburg, Germany. No-one else has the parts. That's the place you need to get it to. If your Montblanc boutique won't send it for you, then you should send it yourself.

Surely anyone who can afford an Agatha Christie, can afford P&P to Germany

What choice do they have if your dealer won't accept it?

And you don't have either? (proof of purchase or import papers?)

They suggest take it abroad and send from other dealers.

The import paper is for importing the pen as a commodity. I surely don't have one.

And the proof of purchase needs to be in China. You can't send a Montblanc LE for repair in China even if you purchased from authorized dealers abroad.

It's rather common because MB here are much more expensive comparing to other countries and the dealer here want to hold their market.

that's rather unfortunate. i didn't realize that MB dealers in different countries had different policies. here in the philippines, you can bring in any MB (bought from anywhere--the US, ebay, online, wherever) and the local MB authorized dealer will accept it for repair and send it on to HK and/or to germany--without asking for any documentation, and they'll charge you the same minimal charges they would impose had you bought your pen from them. i've had my 149s and my LEs serviced this way.

Sounds like someone needs to take a small vacation to your location ;p

Boy that Sean looks like he does some nice work........The closest guy to Sean that I have seen is a professor out in the Phoenix area who does work like this! I've sent work to him, a 1930's or 20's Mickey Mouse pen that the barrel snapped in 1/2 and he fixed it for a very reasonable price, the professor in the phoenix area I'm talking about....

is our product still in warrenty?

Think you would need a proof of purchase to be able to get it covered under that, otherwise I'd say typical after-sales services if he can just find a retailer or other location that'll take it without needing import papers or proof of purchase.

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth

There is still chemistry for processing regular chrome (positive) films like Kodak Ektachrome and Fuji Velvia, but Kodachrome was a completely different and multistep beast.
    • Ceilidh
Ah, but how to get it processed - that is the question. I believe that the last machine able to run K-14 (Kodachrome processing) ceased to operate some 15 or so years ago. Perhaps the film will be worth something as a curiosity in my estate sale when I die. 😺

Take a lot of photos!   If the film has deteriorated or 'gone off' in any way, you can use that as a 'feature' to take 'arty' pictures - whether of landmarks, or people, or whatever.
