I found some old terracotta, white and savannah green safaris, but they are all ball point, not fountain. I havent seen any of these sell. Does anyone have an idea of value?

I don't think those are Safari ballpoints at all, they're Safari fountain pens. The Safari ballpoints have a push actuator with an accordion style plastic thingy on it. The Safari Rollerballs have a cap like the Fountain pen, but no ink window.

Anyway, here's (top to bottom) the Safari Rollerball, Ballpoint and Fountain pen; all in charcoal.

The pics were scraped from Pengallery.com (no affiliation) where I recently bought a Safari fountain pen and a spare nib. At post date they want $19.20 USD plus shipping for the rollerball, $17.90 for the ballpoint, and $24.80 for the fountain pen. The fountain pen price includes a Lamy Z24 converter (at least mine did).

I might consider a matching rollerball for one of my existing Safaris, but you don't have a matching color - and I still don't think those are rollerballs (or ballpoints) in your picture.

I do like the Savannah and Terracotta colors though. I don't know how they look in person, but the Savannah with the black clip has a military feel to it and the Terracotta reminds me a little of classic Mandarin Orange (in a burnt sort of way).

But sorry, the pens aren't worth much (if anything) too me personally. A true Safari Collector would know better.

BTW, I just noticed in your photo that one of the white Safaris has what looks to be a blocked ink window. What's up with that?

They are definitely rollerballs. My bad on the vernacular. These are early ones and they all have the ink window in the barrell, but have an extension of the section that is painted black so that when they are screwed all the way in the ink window is black. I can post a picture later if you would like.

I did not know about the early Safari Rollerballs with ink windows - interesting. It seems kind of pointless to make an ink window that's only covered up by a painted part of the section though. Perhaps that's why the newer versions don't have the ink window.

Thanks for the clarification... David

I suspect it was so Lamy only needed to make one type of barrel, which would help keep costs down.
