Leather Pen Recommendations

Recommended Posts

I've always been a huge fan of leather furnishings, and would really love to find a good pen with a leather barrel. I know that Faber-Castell makes their "Basic" in a leather finish, but I'm not a huge fan of the rubbery cap. On the other end of the spectrum I know that S.T. Dupont used to make an alligator leather pen, though they're a bit beyond my price range. Does anyone know of any pens finished in leather somewhere between those two extremes?

Techi - that's a lot more like what I'm looking for. Happen to know anything about how Aspinal pens write? Nib looks like a Schmidt steel...

i have not had too much personal experience with them unfortunately, but my uncle use to have one as a daily writer for about a year and never complained of any issues.

I can't seem to find any reviews of them either, but atleast they look good

just seen this:

https://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/index.php/topic/238567-new-pen-arrived-aspinall-of-london/

The poster claims that 'The nib is wonderfully smooth'.

Although, they don't seem to get perfect reviews here:

http://www.reviewcentre.com/reviews154445.html

I will keep looking though, as i also like these pens as i am quite fond of the silver caps

oh and here's something similar:

http://www.charleshubert.com/store/index.php/writing-instruments/brown-leather-like-executive-fountain-pen.html

or a bit more expensive:

http://www.writing-instruments.co.uk/shop/dunhill-fountain-pens/dunhill-limited-edition-sidecar-leather-chassis-fountain-pen/

and this claims that the barrel 'feels like leather':

And heres another, again with a sterling silver cap, and cheaper than before:

http://www.penheaven.co.uk/laban-silver-and-black-leather-fountain-pen

That one has a gold plated Bock nib, of which i have used similar, and was a good smooth writer after slight adjustment

It may not be everyone's style, but I love that and must have it.

You are most welcome :D It's been on my list for a week or two now - I like the use of sterling silver in caps especially (i don't know why, it just seems right)

Yes, I can offer 2 suggestions:

The S T Dupont Diamond Leather FP and the Alfred Dunhill Sidecar Leather (Limited Edition). With both, there is no visible seam whatsoever (a deal breaker for me), and if you have patience, both show up on Ebay with regularity. Personally, I prefer the Dupont because of its build quality - there are few (if any) better made pens on the market. And of course, the way the Dupont clicks when you close it.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
