Twsbi Diamond 580 Medium Gushing Ink! Normal?!?

Ok.... so a couple months ago i was torn between buying a diamond 580 and a vac 700.... so i did what any normal addict would do.... i bought both.

Now, although they both have the newer jowo nib i believe, they are different sizes... 6 on vac and 5 on 580 respectfully.

My issue has been with the 580. I got them both in medium. It is a veeeery wet writer. Like to the point of almost bleedthrough on rhodia. Im not sure if this is normal...

I know that many have said they had flow issues with theirs in the past, but mine is the opposite....

Is this normal for the 580? Is it the medium nib? (Ive ordered a fine for it which should come in soon)

I love the look of the pen but the flow makes it difficult to use for practicality reasons. Can i slow it a bit? Or is it just how the medium nib writes?

Fyi my 700 is great.

And i have tried a few inks and lastly nkw i have apache sunset in it which normally behaves drier, but is stikk gushing.

Ti.es are alligned, perfectly touching at the tip of the nib.... i just dont get it.

Please, if u have any advice or reassurances let me know.

Thanks :)

-Stefan

Check to see the nib is seated all the way down into the section and that the feed and nib line up. That might correct it.

Some people say they march to a different drummer. Me? I hear bagpipes.

The answer is No. It sounds to wet for a medium, and it doesn't sound like the ink. As Andrew mentioned make sure every clicks into place.

with the pen clean and dry - can you see a lot of light between the tines?

If so - the nib may be adjusted (ahem) so that it's writing way too wet.

you can close the gap a bit if that is the case.

I've just got a 580 with the 1.1 stub, and its gushing like a fire hose too. I've literally had it less than a week so haven't had a chance to have a look at it yet, but I did wonder if the observations about dryness had provoked an over-enthusiastic swing in the opposite direction. Hope you get sorted. Heck, hope I get it sorted!

I shall have to withdraw my "me too" - a change of ink and now if anything mine's now a little dry. Le sigh.

Ok, so i checked and there is no unusual gap between the tines.... so far ive used diamine poppy red, fiamine oxblood, and now apache sunset because it has been drier than other inks in my experience.

Compared to my vac 700 medium its wetter and more broad. Not unusable, but i went ahead and switched to the fine i just got for the 580 and its better, although a much finer line... the briadness might be due to the heavy flow with the medium.

I did notice that the o-ring on the grip section that goes over the nib /feed holder and the silver part is missing. Besides a normal flush, i never took it apart.... should i contact speedy about it? Would that arbitrary o-ring cause that? I noticed it is on my fine neb section when i took it apart....

The O-ring in between the nib/feed collar and the aluminium (I guess..) ring? If this is this one, I guess its only purpose is only to prevent ink from going into the section when filling the pen from a bottle. It has no influence on the flow, just on how clean your finger will be while using the pen!

Hmm....well i havent had any inky fingers yet, well nit from that at least lol.

I do always seem to have ink of some kind on my hands....

Thanks.

Oh and the fine nib it not as wet... took a couple quick passes over micromesh to get it to where i wanted it to feel like while writing, but its good now. :-)

Dunno about that medium though. Ill try some experiments with using the feed from the fine and vice versa.... maybe i, myself, can isolate the problem....

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
